  1. Tri-X, during 1980 New York transit strike
  2. I started out in 1954 with a Brownie Hawkeye flash model. The lens was mediocre at best, but a little coaching would have greatly improved my output. After that initial outburst, I didn't take pictures again until 1978! I still got no coaching, but I was old enough to learn from my mistakes. But get this. My oldest son was never coached, and he is even retarded/autistic; but his sense of color and composition is quite good. Here's a picture he took of our cat. He was 5 years old (the boy, not the cat).
  3. Okay, it isn't a dog, but the shot is topical. This four-year-old girl comforts her kitten as she rides in a car with her parents. They are fleeing Kharkov, heading across Ukraine toward Lvov. I'm glad to say they arrived safely, albeit after paying obscene bribes at "checkpoints."
  4. It is instructive to note how much text is in these ads. You would never see that now. We have become nonverbal and image-obsessed. In TV ads you see the same change. You see image after image with no words or few words spoken.
  5. It is interesting how the ads of the time had mucho print. Current ads are mostly visuals with a scattering of text..
  6. The meters in my Contaflex IV and Voigtlander Vitomatic IIa are spot on.
  7. HOw was this substituted for the original image?
