1. I thank you for the thoughtful response. I am taking the advice above and have ordered a mint copy of the Canon 28-135mm.
2. I am jealous of that Vitomatic IIb with an Ultron. Those are scarce, and the Vitomatics focus quickly and shoot quietly.
3. Got it. I did some mild sharpening.
4. I used dilution B for fresh shots Great results
5. The negs look neutral. I will have a frame printed at a lab. This kid was playing normally, but when she saw someone with a camera, she started showing off: handstands, cartwheels. Even dancing in the waves. Her father was amazed; he didn't know she had an exhibitionist streak. Oh. I didn't use dust-cleaning tools. Scanned on a Plustek 8100.
6. Twice over the last forty years I have dropped an XD-11 onto concrete from 5 feet. The first time with a 500mm Rokkor mirror lens, and the second with a Rokkor 135mm MD In both cases, nothing was damaged! Was Minolta stuff designed to be so tough? Or was I lucky twice?
7. It occurs to me that I may be misjudging the Sigma glass. The lack of sharpness may be from my unsteady old hands. I will try the Sigma again on a tripod.
8. LOL! Weegee once said he had to "pay for it" until he was famous and then had choices.
9. I printed a copy of this in 5x7 for the girl's father. I remember being proud of the tones. I can't get those in a scan of the same neg.
10. What is that white ring on his head?
11. I have one of these rare machines, but haven't tried it yet. It has an Ultron f2.0. What kind of quality do you get? Is the rangefinder tough or easily offset? P.S. It's a Voigtlander from the 1950s.
12. In 1984 I took some nice shots on Agfapan. In attempting to scan them recently, I get sketchy results. The negs are thin; they look faded. I printed one of the shots in 1984; it came out very rich looking. Is it possible for mono to lose quality over time? The negs have been in quality storage until last week. Here is one scanned frame. You will see the grain and low acuity, and this is not a huge magnification.
13. Got it. Can I get a reasonabl3e zoom with anti-shake abilities?
14. An initiation? Is that male or female swinging the paddle?
15. A few days after I snapped this, the support tower collapsed and fell into a residential neighborhood. A brownstone home was crushed, killing all inside and the people on the rig. I have a shot of the cleanup, and will post it here when I find it.
16. The Sigma lens is nothing special. Is there a not-too-expensive Canon zoom about the same focal lengths?
17. In Katharine Hepburn Park, NYC
18. Here's another shot from the roll. The film may have been outdated...I don't recall.
