1. I shot kiddie basketball for several years. Really challenging. Fast ASA film (or ISO setting, in your case) and fast shutter speeds seemed best. No matter, it was tough. I started using a flash and got much better results. But some umpires didn't like flashes, especially when I was shooting from the sidelines and end of court rather than from the stands. I have way more bad shots than good.
2. ... And negs delivered as fast as the mail system can move.
3. Or send to The Darkroom (San Clemente CA) and get your film developed and scans downloaded the day after they receive the film.
4.
This statement may be a problem: "I don't have any 'needs' per se but I would like a camera that is fairly good at portraiture or landscapes" Not having clearly identified needs is not a problem but some choices make one kind of photography easier/better than the other. A TLR (or any camera with a fixed focal length lens) can work good for normal focal length landscape and general photography, but not so great for a lot of portraiture.
As I mentioned, I found a TLR to be both fun and effective. Most of my photography was landscape and general (whatever that means). But when I took an increased interest in portraiture I found all fixed focal length cameras too limiting.
Something for you to consider.

5.
p.s. when I was a poor college kid asking similar question I ended up with a Rolleicord Vb... which met my needs for the next 20 years. :)

6.
What do you want to accomplish? That can drive which is the best option to consider.

7. After my Costco stopped film I started using The Darkroom in San Clemente CA. Prepaid mailers, decent pricing, good scans, good prints, negs returned with a CD and reference print. About $5 for return of up to 5 rolls. Images posted to online site if one wants to see or download faster than the mail. Email messages to confirm receipt, processing completion, and return mailing. Tracking numbers, both coming and going. Never a worry with these folks!
8. Me too. Often incident reading is as good, or better, than spot readings!
9. I would suspect that the body needs an overhaul. The linkage in the bottom probably needs cleaning and lubrication.
10. Cwatson is right !! The reason I ask about sky is because the meters you are comparing are weighting the scene differently. A better test would be a large equally lit scene like a wall, etc. That would negate the impact of different meter weightings.
11. Is there any sky in the scene being metered? Try again using a wall or fence without sky.
12. I believe the K1000 meter is an averaging meter, not a spot meter. You likely compared apples to oranges in terms of what luminance a were compared.
13. So why or why not do you put film in zip lock bags Steve Moreno, or are you just the resident photo.net philosopher? LOL
14. Good point, Hector; thanks. Marc... Welcome. Ask anything you wonder. I didn't intend to pick on you.
15.
Why in the world would the behavior of others, which certainly does not affect you, bugg you?

I put film in Ziploc bags to keep them organized. Exposed in one, unexposed in another. Often use four bags, segregating B&W from color.

16. For me it was mostly a novelty the first time around. I'm not particularly excited the second time, so I'll graciously leave this discussion. Exit, stage left!
17. Am and SF are smaller bulb than 5/25 with a different base.
18.
That is really worth knowing. Thanks for pointing that out, Ian!

19. Sometimes you just get it all in one place. That's the problem with niche of niche products and processes.
