  1. Agree that the moody color is very effective. Initially, I had a little trouble parsing things, such as which umbilicus went where, and the "missing" wing, but after a few minutes, it all fell into place.
  2. It appears that both Chrome and Edge want to block Flash on this site. This seems to be what is causing my flickering page problem. Should I block or allow Flash on PN? Thanks, Les
  3. This is sorta off-topic, but my mother knew Dorothy Norman back in the Forties. IIRC, she used a Graphlex 4x5, probably with an uncoated lens.

    Best Friend

Your friends seem to be prettier than mine. Good light and framing, and the garland really works well. I would sharpen this a little, especially around the eyes. You might also have taken a few more with this pose, to get a better expression?
  5. I saw that one a while ago, but mine would be great for street work.

    Refined

Haven't seen you for a while. Classic 19th century style studio portrait. You could probably get in the Loan Collection with this, although you might not want to.
  7. I'd really like to see the tripod! https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/21994023_1719481618064562_6828393964200170003_o.jpg?oh=5fd6bd2c41be5c192e4b0951610b47ff&oe=5A4BC608

    Horse Show Formalwear!

    Excellent seat. Very busy background.

    Sweet Street Sax

I like the perspective, especially the figure in the background. Tone-mapping is okay, but it might be better without it.
  10. The key is not "stolen". It is provided on the Adobe site. Adobe recommends not installing "outdated" software, but does not forbid it.
  11. Could indeed be the rollers. The great Ansel Adams recommended spit for cleaning them, IIRC. It could also be the Impossible film, which sometimes shows this exact problem. It's honestly getting better, though.
  12. If you want to be Explored on Flicker, or Trending here, you need C or F.
  13. This is excellent, obviously. I am curious about the color of the water.
  14. It appears that the Flickering Pages of Doom have returned, along with mysterious Green Dots that appear in the lists of forum posts. (Win 10, Chrome, latest build) I can stop them most of the time by hitting Esc, but they are just as annoying as they were the first time around. EDIT: When I posted this, the page began to flicker again. Esc stops it so I can post.
  15. Not in Lightroom, AFAIK. You can do this in Photoshop with the Lens Blur dialog. There is a plugin called Alien Skin Bokeh that does a very good job, but it also requires an application which can make selections. It should work with programs besides Photoshop, or the free CS2.
  16. It is, in any number of ways. Only the Japanese version of Photoshop would call it "boke"; in English it is "blur". Neither language, to my knowledge, would capitalize the first letter. Besides, if it got out that you can add "bokeh" aka "blur" in software, many overpriced lenses would be off the market due to lack of sales.
  17. Not the most exciting series--the images just seem to be there-- but the nostalgia and historic value is amazing. Even by the late Fifties, when I first saw New York, things had begun to change.

Very fine wedding photo. I like the side-eye and the beginnings of a smile. Couple of technical bits. IMO, you could use a little more DOF here--the softness in the lips and nose bothers me a little. Where it IS sharp, on the skin, it might be a little TOO sharp. I'd do a slight skin retouch, keeping the texture but softening it somewhat.

    aroon

Very good studio shot. Excellent skin tone and detail, excellent retouch. Bit of a merger between the dress and the bed linen.

    Before the storm

Cloud formation sets this nicely apart from the thousands of other sunsets on the Web. Good job.
  21. '54 Buick? Great image, well posed and good use of light.

    Native America - 25

It's a very effective image, but I think it needs some kind of context--many images do (and many don't).
  23. I do post critiques and comments, but it's frustrating to do so. You find a photo you like. You click it. It then says "Click Photo". I just DID that. Then I have to click "View Comment" to see the EXIF, which may help me determine what is right or wrong. Then I comment. Now I have to click "Go Back", which takes me to some place it thinks I should be, rather than BACK, which means WHERE I WAS. Oh yes, and after I wrote the above, I had to scroll to the top of the page to be sure I wasn't randomly logged out, because if I was, and I clicked "Sign In", I would be taken to my home page, and lose this post.

Solid b/w image, great focus and detail makes the subject really jump out of the frame. Raising the camera a little bit might have helped.
