A serious moment for a clown, even the happy makers have to have a
serious thought now and again. Your thoughts and comments are always
welcome.

New to pet portraits, any tips or hints that you folks have out
there are very much apreciated. Your comments are welcome and I
invite you to offer advice. Thank you in advance.

The only thing that would cause the horizon line in this image to appear slanted is that you are holding your camera at an angle that is not parallel to the horizon. That can happen a lot when the photographer concentrates only on the main subject of the photo and not the surrounding and background elements. Putting it all together is the composition part of image capture. While it is an easy to fix error in just about any image editing software it would be a better practice to make sure your camera is level with the horizon line.

Amanda,
My solution to the "Sunshine" in the background would be to simply clone it out in a digital darkroom, fixing the existing image. The best solution would to re-shoot the image. Ensuring that distractions like that are not in the frame. That can be one of the hardest things to do, as we tend to focus on the subject only. With some time and practice you will begin to look and study the entire frame for such distractions. Sometimes there just isn't any way to frame something without stuff in the frame we don't want. In those cases a digital darkroom comes in very handy.

Great shot with the exception of the blown out background (upper right) is a distraction that makes it look as though something is melting and running down the frame. Maybe a different perspective would have helped. I like the way you caught the water drops and the other flowers on the right edge of the frame.

Nick,
It was about mid-day, cloudy and it was snowing. While inside I set the white balance on my camera using a white card exposed to tungstun light. I then steped outside framed up and shot. I did not use any ligting or a flash.
I took a look at the photos you pointed me to in your portfolio, underexposing gave you a similar color cast. Give it a try using a tungstun setting for your white balance, and no compensation in your exposure time. See if it brings out some of the violet that you mentioned.

Over all great image. I really like the way the light plays off of the glass and onto the table, and the shadows cast by the engraving are beautiful. What I do not like is in the top center there is something poking into the frame and breaking up the light pattern, it is not a big deal but it just caught my eye. I for one would very much enjoy a cup of tea, thank you for the invite.

The image is powerful and is pleasing to view. The only thing I see that I do not like is the seemingly out of focus feeling I get when I look at the entire image.

Tony,
funny your should use the word reverse that is a kind of feeling I am trying to get from this image "What a train speeding in on you might look like from a car window while crossing the tracks"
John,and Eugenio
This is one of those images where the motion is everything. The composition was used to allow the rushing train room to enter the remaining frame.
M. Barbu,
The photo is not a composite so if the train doesn't look right it must have been me, can you tell me more about where it looks off, or better yet copy this one and toss it into PhotoShop and show me. Thanks in advance for your help.
Donald,
I must agree this second attempt is much better than the first, much of that due to critiques and advice like yours, thank you for the help.
Sky Blue,
Kind of that on-rush thing I never did think of a Back to the Future approach but I can see where your coming from.
Nick,
Thanks, the idea behind the shot was to evoke that since of panic, what one might feel if they crossed the rail tracks at the wrong time, that since of wanting to run away.

Great shot for a mid day exposure, the only thing I would change would be the title...I would have called it double exposure. Once again great candid shot, well done.

The horizontal alignment leaves me with the feeling that it was taken while falling down. I think it would look much better with level horizon. The buildings in the back or a little blown out. The automobile entering the frame at the lower left is distracting, but that like the horizontal alignment could be easily fixed. All in all it is a good vacation memory but photographically average.

The composition does tell the story, I really like the way that three separate examples of the drawing can be seen in this photograph. I only wish the expression could be seen on the chalk artists face. The overall image seems just a little flat Im guessing it was cloudy or done in the shade.

The people walking along the street and the parked cars really take away from this image it is a shame they had to be there at all. Whats wrong with people any way, they are always getting in the way. The composition is good the idea "person taking a picture" while not original is always one that is fun to look at. Might be my monitor but it seems to be just a touch out of focus. Great eye, keep shooting and posting.

It is...red

The composition is good, with only three faces coming towards the camera it is almost an against the flow kind of feel. It is a shame that alot of the image is blown out (over exposed) and it all seems to be leaning to the left.

I don't know if the motion blur is intentional or not, but I don't like it. The exposure and use of the existing light is great...it is the blur that bothers me.
-
I can see to that the sun rays would have been lost if the people were to be cropped...good choice not to crop them...

The sunshine contrasting the shadows was the first thing that got my attention to this photograph. When the larger version loaded up my first thought was "they forgot to set the white balance" and I was going to take points away for that. Then I read the comment you left, and the color cast grew on me. The only thing that I would change would be the distracting people (upper right) but even they could be there as a point of reference. All in all a very well composed image. Cudos.
