  1. i dont shoot nite time. i shoot fashion backstages with existing light. normally i will be able to shoot with 400asa at f1.4 to f2.8.

i use monilta x-700 with 50mm md f 1.4 lens. its amazing. the only reason i asked this question i need a autofocus lens sometimes since i m missing a lot of shots during the backstages because everything is moving so fast there. so i would like to get a back up body to use its autofocus feature so that i wont miss so much shots.

the other reason is i need a compact body so thats why i was considering elan7ne. i know f100 or eos 3 is better then elan 7ne but to be honest i dont need so much features. all i need is basically point and shoot as fast as i can.

thanks to u all for the feedback.

ps. i will shoot film as much as i can. untill they stop producing film. i tried digital several times and it doesnt look good for my style. it looks so 2 dimensional.

  2. i will specificly use 50mm mostly at f1.4 , 28mm and 90mm will be my other lenses and thats it. no zoom or anything like that.

i need a fast lens in these categories but mostly 50mm and it should be sharp and has a nice bokeh at f1.4 most of the time

i will use f1.4 to f2.0 thats it. so i want to know if canon 50mm f1.4 usm or nikon 50mm f1.4d performs better in that range.

and the fast and accurate autofocus at f1.4 important too.

  3. what a shame. this boring digital cameras are ruining the photography world.

i always do my scanning by hiring an imacon either in ny or in london. it costs me $5 in ny and 5 pounds in london per scan. its ok for now but i would prefer doing it at home conveniently.

i hope some manufacturer will fill this gap. i believe some people will never give up shooting film. its unreplaceble.

  4. I do my color correction on my toshiba laptop which has an LCD screen. I am

sure its off and was wondering what is the easiest way to calibrate the monitor

so that when i sent the pics to the contest it wont look ridicilous.

Actually the question is, lets say i got one calibration tool like monaco ez

and calibrate my monitor. Are these softwares are all standard which calibrates

all the monitors equally in colorwise. How will I know if the organisation who

is doing this contest has the same calibrated monitors?

  5. According to the website callforentry.org when you resize your tiff image to

1920x1920 @72 dpi the file size will be 1.8mb (jpeg)

Some of the pics exceed the 1.8mb size. Some are 2.66mb or so

How can i get to this file size?

To make the pic square i use the canvas size and make the background black in

order to make the rectangle for mat to square.

I have to sumbit some images and the guidelines are asking for this specific

    size .

  6. I have been using Mamiay RZ67 for a while and I m quite happy with it.

But still I would love to take a shot on 4x5 large format. I was wondering what

is the safest(economical) way to try it out?

Everybody says large format is all about movements and since I never used it, I

    dont get that.

My mamiya has no movements but iam pretty ok with that.

All I know is I need a rangefinder to shoot handheld without loosing so much

time. Please advice me some cameras.

    Thanks.
