john tonai
But they say it is professional image quality, so it must be true. I'm especially impressed on how they managed to make the phone sensor as good as APS-C and Full frame camera to get that professional image quality

mendel_leisk
The phone's ubiquity alone is threatening the DSLR. You always carry your phone. A bulky camera, perhaps with a menagerie of lens, stifles spontaneity. Yeah, I have one of those, a Canon 5DIII, and the arsenal of lens, sadly not seeing not much use.

Norma Desmond
Unfortunately, infotainment and advertainment is how people get their info these days, whether it be about gear or about politics or about the news of the world. I think I'll just keep my DSLR and have some sanity.

Les
randrew1
I use my iPhone all the time for grab shots, but a smart phone cannot obtain professional results until it:

has a wide enough aperture to provide depth-of-field control

allows a depth-of-field preview

allows manual focus

allows manual exposure

allows manual ISO settings

provides shutter priority

provides aperture priority

provides exposure bracketing

provides multiple white balance options

provides overall, center-weighted, and spot metering

provides overall, centerweighted, and spot autofocusing

has minimal shutter lag

allows zoom lenses

provides RAW files

allows controllable grain reduction algorithms

allows controllable sharpness enhancement algorithms.

(What have I left out?)

I'm obviously taking this ad way too seriously.

aplumpton
+ 1 Fred. Your wide brush is appropriate! Anything goes these days. On the micro scale, this ad forgets to mention that the weakest link may be whatever lens it covers, not to mention the sensor limitations.
Wouter Willemse
I love the comparison table. Apparently Nikon lenses have less distortion than Canon, but Canon definitely has more coating. I feel a new Nikon vs. Canon debate coming, as the scientific proof is finally there now. And it definitely confirms that Leica lenses actually only do sharpness, but little else - finally, solid scientific proof of the hype.

Right. Much as I like my smartphone for quick shots, sticking some extending stupid tube on it won't make it into something that makes me ditch any of my cameras any time soon. Time to grab one of those cameras with high aberrations, poor contrast and too little coating and have some fun.

Dieter Schaefer
So, $56 for one three-lens set - which reflects a 75% discount already. Wouldn't be the same lenses that sell on amazon for $14.99? And that come in different colors too?
fotolopithecus
This is just stupid. Even if this puissant lens were the equal of a Zeiss (which it ain't) it would still be going on a smart phone which is less than optimal. No doubt one day nanobots will make lenses that are smaller than an amoeba to fit cameras the size of a Gnat's A** to take pictures of a fly's eye. Who cares.
