Inexpensive cloud space
Sandy Vongries replied to thequintessentialman's topic in Casual Photo Conversations
Studied and taught Martial Arts most of my life. The videos are time consuming to make and to watch, and have limited use as a teaching tool ex. for private students who are paying a lot. I couldn't even watch my own kids sport videos, and they were good. Don't spend till you are sure you have a viable audience. -
I have and enjoy both the D2X and the D3. For their time, top pro cameras and capable to this day. I often grab the D3 over newer cameras. I have the DF with the same sensor as the D4, so am currently shopping for a good D5. I always greatly enjoyed the Pro Nikons, and have several from the film era. The digitals spare the costs and logistics which plague (at least for me in my location) film usage. P.S, Never had a D300 unfortunately, but the color rendition of the D2x is definitely interesting.

Cheating the Spammers
Sandy Vongries replied to The Ghost Of Phils Society's topic in PhotoNet Site Help
When I cleared the log this morning, there were 181 Spam reports, and a double handful that had not yet been found who were added. -

Post a link and I'll take a look - Seams appears on target.

Click on Forums, it is at the very top - for some reason, the Spammers favorite point of entry.

Fortunately we have some cheap labor as well!

I have been on it the last half hour & continue.

Measures of improving and shortcomings solving
Sandy Vongries replied to Pierre Dumas's topic in PhotoNet Site Help
Key point, on this platform, Photo.Net cannot be the same as it was anytime in the past. It is not going to be what it was at its best, it will simply be the best it can be given available features. A great deal of work has been done, and there aren't many more switches left to be thrown. Hopefully more details will follow in the next day or two. -
Getting one’s work into a gallery?

AJG is probably correct in general, but a great deal depends on relationships, particularly outside urban centers, but also in neighborhoods inside them. -
Getting one’s work into a gallery?

The last, a very good idea, particularly any than may have experience with the venue. There are also better restaurants that display and sell art. I have seen hospital and clinic waiting rooms with framed photos and art, some priced for sale. Cast a broad net - involvement in the art community is always a good idea. Artists often require photos of their work as well, and I haven't met many who were, say, painters, and photographers as well. Should be fun times! Don't miss show openings at galleries if they are open to the general public. -
Getting one’s work into a gallery?
Sandy Vongries replied to Ricochetrider's topic in Business of Photography
Sorry! My internet access has been a series of brief windows and I have been moving as fast as I can. It just came back up after a couple of hours down. Visit galleries, meet owners and staff, look at what they have displayed. Revisit the ones you like and bring a small portfolio. Follow your instincts! -

Spam and my Internet was down
Sandy Vongries replied to Sandy Vongries's topic in Casual Photo Conversations
Had a whole hour of access yesterday. I am told that my backup battery is failing, all current and the internet access flows through it. They are scheduled to replace it later today. Please keep reporting spam and I will handle it in any access windows I have, Thanks! -
Just came out of a better than 12 hour failure by my service provider. I think I reached the real Nurse Ratched online at their help desk. Anyway I did a quick clean up. I will handle any reports after dinner. Actual circumstances beyond my control. Thanks for your understanding!

How to look after your filters....
Sandy Vongries replied to rodeo_joe1's topic in Casual Photo Conversations
If available you might get Goo Gone. Have found it quite useful on dried adhesives and gummy ones as well. -
I struggle with these kinds of responses, and must ignore them. My focus has to be the members who are treasure houses of photographic knowledge which they generously share, my fondness for the site, the majority of members, particularly those who have offered to help or are currently helping to keep things running. Some days, those things and a promise to myself to do my best for the site as long as it exists are all that keep me from walking away.

Monitor Brightness and Eye Issues
Sandy Vongries replied to AlanKlein's topic in Education & Resource
Wife spends a great deal of time on the computer for her work, got some prescription blue blocking computer glasses that seem to help. They are for sale in the usual places online. -
Seems like I always forget. Went through the film Nikons and a little used Mirrorless system today. Replacements and recharges done or in process. Will be checking the most used that are always on standby as well. Though I keep charged spares it is annoying to miss an opportunity because of an overlooked battery.

Believe this is still subject to adjustment and don't know the rationale. Some things are higher functional priorities than others. What comes to my mind is my F5 and its bag of tricks.

Folks, I am the farthest thing from an attorney. When something is put on the internet, it can be removed from the place where it was posted, and that is work in progress, but it is forever. That has been shown time and again. Emphasis, and again with very limited resources, is on functionality. In due course, the rest will come.
