  1. Zombie thread, y'all. OP MIA since 2006!
  2. Might be worth looking into the matching battery grip that included a AA battery tray. Funny but the biggest fail with any off-brand batteries for me is the often-crappy charger that ships with them.
  3. Good luck finding a "proper" CLA for this relic in 2023. The testing required to bring it back to spec is laborious and not cheap. Had it done on a 6x7 20+ years ago by Pentax Canada.
  4. Despite all the camera porn images posted, reality requires finding someone who can reliably service these relics. Their charges have to be added to purchase prices for reliably operable Rolleis in 2023. They're admittedly gems but little more than intriguing doorstops when they conk out for want of expert attention.
  5. IIRC, these shutters were electronically--not mechanically--timed. That means no amount of CLA or "service" will remedy an inaccurate shutter speed.
  6. Let the boffins help you out: https://mikeeckman.com/2018/08/robot-junior-1954/
  7. Nice work. The fast-handling size and interface of these cameras makes for a welcome break from the taxidermic wedding shot style I personally loathe.
  8. Have a look at what UK wedding photographer Kevin Mullins does with Fuji mirrorless gear.
  9. Realistic isn't necessarily negative. Fuji rolled out the X-100 and X-T series cameras ages ago. Nikon simply chose to ignore video. Same goes for MILCs. Selling pricey cameras into a shrinking market isn't exactly a long game. Neither are costly flubs like the KeyMission--remember? Maybe the future is binoculars and spotting scopes? Who knows, right?
  10. Further evidence that Nikon is rudderless: Too-late entry into MILCs and video capability relative to Canon and Sony; retreat from prosumer merch;goofy product bombs(DFc); numb to a shrinking market for DSLRs and MILCs. Friends behind photo retail counters in Toronto don't see a winner in the Z8 since it will chill Z9 sales but not fly off shelves. Glad I jumped ship.
  11. People are cash-starved now. Period. What's not to get?
  12. Never mind the impact of rising interest rates on consumers' purchase choices, right? Buying a Z8 just might not be a priority for many now.
  13. 2017 was a world away from mid-2023. Maybe you missed all that?
  14. Whatever the resident fanboys say, Nikon is selling ever pricier cameras into a shrinking market. Given the economic realities of mid-2023, the Z8 at C$ 5400 is wide of "relatively inexpensive." Definitely not prosumer merch.
  15. Saw those and thought "cryptic for cryptic's sake." Much more impressed by the article on Kwame Braithwate simply for the number of people it influenced: https://www.newyorker.com/news/afterword/the-photographer-of-the-black-is-beautiful-movement
  16. Nice. Thanks. A welcome break from celebrity worship photography.
  17. Agree with Niels about the fanboy myopia on display above about Japanese home market demand and how it shapes production decisions. Neither Ricoh or Fujifilm are primarily camera makers.
  18. I don't readily associate "Nikon" and "innovation." Their tardy shift to MILCs seems proof of that. Pentax can do what it likes with Ricoh's blessing. Leica will always be there for the well-heeled. Fuji's Acros film sim was a considerable selling point for its cameras that offered it. Niche product? Isn't that true of most photographic gear now?
  19. Simply put: look for another F3 that's functional. WLFs on 35mm cameras? Why?
  20. Right up there with the classic "Bass-o-matic" https://www.facebook.com/backtothe70spopculture/videos/1976-dan-aykroid-super-bass-o-matic-76-snl/276052867040301/
