  1. I love the perspective you got shooting from this spot. I'd like to see the color version to compare with, though. This shot is rather dark, so the surfer's head kind of blends in with the background in black & white. Color might make him stand out a bit more. Regards -

I almost missed this shot because I figured the ride was over - glad I

didn't though! Taken at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, CA. Comments welcome

This young surfer did beautifully at Steamer Lane this morning. The

picture doesn't do justice to the size of the wave, because I was

standing on a cliff shooting downward. Comments/critque welcome

Thank you, Kimberly. She's my friend's niece, so I did share this with the family. The best thing is that the camera didn't make her self-concious at all - kids are great that way!

B&W works so well for this shot, and I love how the horses legs seem to be fanned out evenly across the bottom of the picture. A flurry of motion below & frozen action above!

Dizzying Neil! I love this panning shot - wasn't sure at first glance whether it was photoshopped or not. Wonderful to have the jockeys and foremost horse's head in such sharp focus while having the background and legs so blurred. Very nice :)

Ok, this shot just plain old rocks! I love seeing the city in the background - makes it look like the riders are really high up. Great action shot, Mark!
  2. Well, not only is this my favorite picture in your portfolio, but I gather from all the nice compliments that you're the model as well :) Feet up, cold beer, cigar - I love the pure relaxation going on. This was the perfect shot for black & white as well. Great shot & I hope you often feel as relaxed as you look here
  3. Oh, thank you Bryan! We get hummers in my yard a lot, but they're always so quick to fly away. I noticed this weekend that this particular bird will sit for minutes at a time in my avocado tree, or on the bush seen here. I actually had enough time to unlock my trunk, change lenses, and walk back down to the garden for this shot. It was pretty exciting for me & I hope to get a few more with him/her perched like this!

Thank you, Sky. Luke, that pic looks PAINFUL! Thanks - I experimented with various ways to deal with distracting backgrounds on these rodeo pics, since almost none of them have a 'clean' background. I'd love to see more of your rodeo pics, too!
