namurray 0 Posted January 2, 2007 To Rob, Lesa, Gunga Jim, Julian and Vallery - thank you all very much for your generous comments I do appreciate them. I wasn't too sure how this one would be received but I had a liking for it myself and it seems others do too. Thanks again and all the best for 2007, Neil Link to comment
terri1 1 Posted January 2, 2007 B&W works so well for this shot, and I love how the horses legs seem to be fanned out evenly across the bottom of the picture. A flurry of motion below & frozen action above! Link to comment

namurray 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks very much for your kind comments Jarek. This was taken at a country track not far from where I live. It was what we call a picnic meeting . The horses are not of a high standard and prize money is about US$350 a race. Nevertheless, the action is just as intense as at the city meetings. I spent most of the meeting shooting slow shutter speed pans. This was the best of them. I was lucky to get four horses abreast with Silver Cat at full stretch. And at 1/100sec, I managed to get a good balance of sharpness in jockeys and horse bodies and blur in legs and background/forground. It was a very bright sunny day and contrast was bad the colour version of this photo, so I turned it into black and white which softened the effect somewhat. Glad you like the photo Jarek. Kind regards, Neil Link to comment
namurray 0 Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks very much for your kind comments. I'm glad you like the photo. I do a lot of this slow shutter speed panning at the races but seldom get anything that I'm happy with. I think there is a lot of luck involved in this type of shot as well as technique. Thanks again. All the best, Neil Link to comment
