Longboard competition at Santa Cruz, CA. I like the backlighting and
silhouette of this - comments welcome

Joe, John, Gummi - thanks for taking the time to view & comment. I'm glad you liked it! :)

haha - great capture! I love mutton-busting - here the kids wear safety helmets, but I love this guy in his cowboy getup.

I like the DOF and the bird's pose a lot. The wing feathers are quite clear, but the head area is more soft & I think setting the focus point on the head would make this an even better shot. (I know that can be hard when they keep moving that little head around!) Regards - Terri

I had to see this one bigger - the color of these beaks is intriguing. I've never seen birds quite like these - they're eyes are creepy/interesting! I like it. I'd love to see them against a plain dark background - I think they'd really pop. Very nice - T

The way the leaves frame the subject make this an even more attractive shot. Very nice!

Very nice! The drop of water hanging from the end of the beak is a nice touch :)

minerals in water? creamer in my coffee? mmmm.....coffee..... ;)

I really like the composition of this shot, lighting looks good, and timing was very good. The details don't say if there was any post-processing. If not, some unsharp masking might help to sharpen up the head and neck area a bit. Aside from being just a little soft, this an excellent capture!

Such a charming photo! DOF looks right on & I think this is wonderful as is, though the tighter crop makes it seem an even more intimate moment - enhancing it even further. Congrats on such an excellent capture!

Taken at the beach in Monterey, CA

Beautiful. I love the sense of motion - and feel sorry for whatever he's about to pounce on!

I spotted this bird among dozens of sea lions and black-feathered
cormorants. His white plumage made him stand out like a prince among
the masses.

Ravzan, Jayme, Tanya - thanks a lot for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed this pic as much as I enjoyed taking it! Jayme, you have my permission to use it in your top picks & I love that you liked it enough to want to use it :)

This jellyfish shot was taken at the Monterey Aquarium in
California. I love the glowing blue color of these jellies & thought
they looked fantastic against the black background of their tank.

Wonderful street shot! I keep looking at the man in the suit, looking at the man with the tatoos. Then I wonder- would it really have taken much for the tatooed man's life to have taken a different turn? Change some critical moments of his life, & he may have been the one going to work in a suit. Do the same with the man in the suit, and might he have become the "freak"?

Outstanding! What an expression you captured here, this is gorgeous :)

Shot yesterday at Carmel Beach, CA. I'm new to this & trying
different settings to see what works & what doesn't. As someone who
skipped many a day of high school to hit the waves, photographing the
surfing is ALMOST as much fun :)

I'm not sure about the crop - I considered moving the surfer down and
to the right a little, but I liked his reflection in the shot too.
