  1. I guess I do not care about his shirt, pants and stuff. I do not know about the projectile thing or what you are talking about. I just do what I know how to do and do not care about the opinion of others. It's just taking photos is all. . Mostly I want nice family photos and I achieve that. I did buy a 10 stop ND filter and I have been playing with that around the coastline. It's been fun trying out something different.
  2. Arista 400 in 120 film is fun to shoot but I guess to much grain for me. When I finsih off this batch I am moving on. I think I like Delta 100. However next up is HP5 in 120 format and see how it goes. This shot was along the Coast in Carmel, Ca. Lot's of people out walking around. The wind was terrible and I am suprised this shot survived the wind blowing the tripod around.
  3. It all worked out ok in the end. Our next camping trip is going to be at Calaveras State Park in the Sierra's. It's a much nicer place to go car camping. .
  4. Back to Arista as I ran out of Delta and Acros 100. I like both films but I think I prefer Delta because the Acros has a curling issue that makes it nearly impossible to get into my Epson film holder. If you put a book on it for a couple days it's ok but I do not usually want to wait around to iron it out. Anyway I shot a couple rolls and I will post up a few. This is just the first one scanned. It was with the 10 stop filter and an orange filter stacked. That is 12 1/3 stops.which I figured would be 14000x. I guess I am right as the exposure was ok. Basically shutter speed (determined without any filters) times 14000 gives you shutter speed in seconds. In bright sun with 400 speed film it is not that long. Most of my shots today were between 4 seconds and 33 seconds. I shot a few pic without filters because I wanted to see the exposure and sharpness compared with a timed exposure and a regular no filter exposure. This shot was about 1/2 stop darker then the no filter shot. I will dial it in after I gain some expeirience. I am going to purchase another 10 stop however. The Tiffen was just the cheapest and I would like one that is multi coated since it's a permanent aspect of my photography.
  5. No, because he seems reasonable, knowledgeable and adult. I am not a film only photographer anyway. I have a Mirrorless system actually and just added a new prime lens to the kit because I saw it on sale at BHPhoto. Nice lens, sharp as a tack. . I also enjoy shooting my cell phone. However my hobby is MF B/W film. I have been shooting it with a 10 stop ND filter lately and it's been a lot of fun. Anyway enjoy your thread. I am headed back to classic camera's where I belong. I just saw this because it was in my alert's when I logged in.
  6. I went to the Ranger Station and asked them about it and I also asked if they thought it was ok to reserve camp sites for people with children which we did have. They said yes it's ok because they have signs around. The good news is we spotted it right off and we made the kids aware and to sear shoes and long pants the entire weekend. None of us developed a rash but I am not going to camp there again. The park also took a beating last winter and the hiking trails are closed so all you have is poison oak and the Big Sur rivers to splash around in. After the ranger visit I did bring up just packing up and going home. We voted and I was the only one that wanted to leave so we stayed and just stayed out of it and kept a sharp eye on the two little ones. Louella is 5 and she understands the risk when she is told about it, but the 2 y/o just has to be watched like a hawk.
  7. The new lens is certainly nice. Your photos are nice and sharp and the exposures are spot on from my monitor. I am in the process of building up a Mamiya kit myself. I have the 645e body and 80mm sekor lens is all. It's not the most popular model of Mamiya but I think it is perfect for my needs. I would buy it again. I have been buying filters for it mostly so far. I doubt I will purchase another lens and just shoot the 80mm.
  8. I rotated the photo in post a bit so that the tree on the right was upright and it made the bridge level. I should have done that before posting and in general I should wait a while before posting as I frequently decide later that something is wonky..
  9. Another shot from the same roll. Same shot as before really, just on the other side of the bridge.
  10. Thank you. This was actually the second shot as during the first try at the long exposure a girl walked in front of the camera and asked if she was in my video. I told her she was not and she seemed happy about that. Actually she ruined the shot but I expected to lose some shots. The other lesson I learned was if there is wind the trees will look terrible in a long exposure. . This one is ok but lesson learned.
  11. We went camping this weekend at Pheiffer State Park. I went with most of my kids and the grandkids and it was fun. Camp breakfast is the best. This is a shot of the Big Sur River next to our campsite and the bridge you drive over to get in the camping area. I have never seen as much poison oak in my life then at this place. We were all very careful and watched the grandkids like a Hawk to keep them out of it.
  12. I am all for bringing out new films or bringing back old films. It's probably a good thing. I shoot 120 film for a hobby and am using Illford products and mostly Delta 100 film. I am happy with that and do not plan on changing up things. Anyway I am not going to try the film out if they offer it in 120 format. I develop my own film and the chemicals are of concern to me. Currently I pour into a 5 gallon bucket and when it's time I take it to the Hazmat free service we have in our community along with other household products and paints. Anyway not sure about the Cadnium thing and would be fine with avoiding it. I will look up Delta 100 and Ilford products to see if I am already using it.
  13. Sorry about you cat. We lost ours 4 months ago to cancer. Its hard to lose your pet.
  14. I just shoot film in B/W. Right now i shoot Acros and Delta 100 in 120 format. I do not want to also develop color. However i shoot color with my cell phone.
  15. KEH.com sells all types of camera's, condition rating is done very well and they have a good return/refund policy. Japan Camera Hunter is a good source if your looking for collector camera's or you just like expensive gear such as Leica/Hasselblad etc. Goodwill.com has non returnable auctions and they have a vast inventory of camera's and stuff. Some of it goes dirt cheap and some of it does not. However if it does not function then your just toast as you cannot get a refund.
  16. I use the Arista 120 reel from Freestyle photo. The loading area goes across the entire width of the reel and it's a simple matter to start the film. The reel fits the Patterson tank so you would not need to purchase the entire kit.
  17. Capitol Beach Pier today. Delta 100 with the 10 stop ND filter. It was a 90 second exposure.
  18. Some rocks in the tide pools at Point Lobos. It's been horribly hot here lately and walking around the cool and comfortable rocky beach was nice. Same roll and no filter or anything on this shot. Just trying to snap the beautiful rocks.
  19. Across 100 developed for 10 min in ID11 at 1:1 (Massive development chart). Still in a learning curve on the black filter and overexposed the negative 1.5 stops because my Math was incorrect. It seems to have come out ok anyway. I will do better and am going to shoot somewhere tomorrow morning. Foggy out there as usual.
  20. Thank you for your kind words Argenticien.. Point Lobos is a place i have been going to for many years. I do enjoy hiking about. I am going to continue to explore possibilities with extended shutter speeds and see where it might take me. I must say its been a while since i saw anyone shooting film out there.
  21. Tri-X is great film for sure. I just ordered 5 rolls of it yesterday but will use it sparingly. I would say about $6.00 a roll without printing. I print on my inkjet and it costs quite a bit to feed it so I am picky about what actually is printed. Mostly family photos in 4x6. I do not have a purpose for larger prints very often but I did make an 8x10 the other day for my daughter. It was a shot of my Grandson. Ink and paper was probably a dollar and I bought a frame at Target for $13.00. It looks good. Actually I took the shot with a digital camera but don't tell anyone.
  22. I would not even shoot film if it cost a great deal. I shoot mostly Arista 400 in 120 format and I develop, scan and print at home. Maybe $5.00 a roll total cost for film and chemicals. Printing is extra. I think it's an inexpensive hobby really and I shoot less then 1 roll a week usually.
  23. Another shot from Point Lobos. This is from the Cypress Grove in the park. I have never really captured what it's like to walk in that grove but maybe someday. Here is my shot. Delta 100, no filter.
  24. A test photo from Point Lobos, Ca. I bought a 10 stop ND filter and this is my first go at it. Settings were F22 at 30 seconds. Delta 100 in ID 11 for 11 minutes..The ND filter is so dark you cannot focus with it on the camera so I focused first then put the filter on.
