  1. Look at Nikon Coolpix A. See this - Nikon Coolpix A Review | Gearophile | Thom Hogan - and other reviews.
  2. Dream Lab website uses cell phones for cancer research while they are being charged at night. I've been doing it for six months or so with no obvious problems.
  3. Known as a labyrinth light seal. All cameras used them at one time. I think foam seal was used as a cost cutting method.
  4. I recommend the Olympus Trip 35 if you can find one with the meter still working. It has a fixed 1/200 shutter speed (although it can be hacked). Every shot is razor sharp. Not every one's cup of tea.
  5. I owned two Canonet QL17s and both were dogs. People like them but I would say don't buy one unless you can try it first. I had very good luck with a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, a bit bulkier than the Canonet and uses a bigger, longer lasting battery.
  6. I only listen to music while I'm doing something else. (Sorry, music lovers.)
  7. After my back got too stiff for a 10 speed, I found an old Raleigh 3 speed at a yard sale which I used for another 20 years (until my balance gave out). Best bike ever. Now a younger friend is enjoying it. And a 10 year old cat from the shelter which has been living with us for 5years. Best cat ever.
  8. Luckily the lens/shutter is in a separate block, held in by screws, so after removing, the focussing assembly is only close to the bellows.
  9. Still looking for a solvent that works on Agfa green grease. (I have a beautiful Solinette waiting patiently.)
  10. I am not too technically aware but my impression is that pixels create noise so the fewer pixels the less the computer/software have to manipulate the image. The same applies to interpolation of image size so a native size print means less manipulation. So you should decide what size you want the final print before you decide which camera to use. Or accept the limitations of your camera when printing. Sort of like making only contact prints from your negatives for best results.
  11. I wanted to take a canal boat trip for years before I last went to England (2001) but hoof and mouth disease got there before me and all the canals were closed. Still read all the canal websites though.
  12. Do you mean there was other film besides Kodachrome 25?
  13. IMHO rangefinders are the least important part of a camera. They didn't appear on cameras until the mid 1930's, often you need to set the focus on a (calculated) hyperlocal distance instead of an actual object, you should be able to estimate distances with practice, depth of field will be your friend.
  14. If you plan to travel there are a lot of small cameras (not DSLRs that I know of) that run on AA batteries which you can find everywhere. No need for chargers, adapter plugs, voltage converters.
  15. It helps maintain my interest in photography. Otherwise no influence on equipment.
  16. I've read that human depth perception from binocular vision is limited to about 20 feet, beyond that your vision depends on perspective to determine depth. (Can you tell which stars are closest to you?)
  17. Good source - The Desert Biome - DesertUSA - .
  18. I attended a wedding years ago where the photographer appeared during the ceremony, unshaven, in jeans, tramped down the aisle (with his 4X5 Speed Graphic), snapped a picture, and then stamped down the aisle and left, letting the door slam shut after him. The photo may have been spectacular but I doubt if he gained any new customers from those attending.
  19. Just a guess, the strap holder bracket on the side looks bent over like it might be retainining the hood assembly. Can yo remove the holders on both sides?
  20. I am planning to buy a new camera case made of PU leather and am worried about any outgassing depositing on the lens. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences to share?
