  1. I recently purchased a Zorki E in order to try out an Elmar 3.5 thread mount (f3.5, 4.5, 6.3 etc.) that I've owned since the 1950's (originally purchased to use as an enlarger lens). The Zorki has no strap lugs so I had to buy a Barnack field case to avoid dropping it. Then I had to buy a tripod socket bushing to adapt the case screw to the Zorki tripod socket. Even the Zorkis are mesmerizing.
  2. I remember reading ( don't remember where) that selenium meters don't totally die but that the cell becomes coated and can be restored by cleaning with a rubber eraser. Never tried it.
  3. Over the years I've gotten some very good buys on Ebay. My only advice when buying, set a price you're willing to pay, bid early and stick to it. You may scare off some bidders and get the equipment for less than your limit.
  4. Romanesque morphs into Gothic?
  5. A very beat up everyday Leics II case for a Zorki E (without strap lugs) that I purchased last fall. I've got some upholstery needles and braided fish line if I need to do some stitching. I've never dropped a camera but in case there's a first time it will offer some protection.
  6. moving finger, we have similar tastes in subjects, very nice set. I'll probably never make it to Spain, and now I realize I should have. Thanks
  7. Are there any trade schools that are looking for donations of old non working cameras to teach camera repair?
  8. Bebu, one of the little zinc-air hearing aid batteries can't be shimmed to fit? They are quite cheap although they don't last as long.
  9. Quonset after Quonset Point, RI, where a US Navy air station is located, and Davisville where a US Navy seabee station location
  10. On my Kodak Retina I the exposure counter was advanced by the film sprocket holes rotating an exposure sprocket shaft and not by the film advance mechanism. I don't know they stopped making camera this way. On my Retina IIa the crank operates the counter and it's necessary to monitor the rewind knob as Tomsapielman suggests.
  11. I have a few rolls of Elitechrome in the freezer and I'm mating an Elmar to a Zorki soon and hope to make it all work .
  12. I think I remember a post in the last year or two. Maybe some other Gene, not Gene M. Very much missed.
  13. I got into photography with Verichrome Ortho, maybe ASA 25.
  14. I have sinned again. I was looking for a camera on which to mount a f3.5 Elmar (from the early 1930's which I purchased years ago to use as an enlarger lens) and was attracted to a Zorki on Ebay ($36). When it arrived I was astounded by the quality of the appearance of the external parts and the solid heft of the camera, I was expecting junk. It appears to be a copy of a Leica II. So now I am looking for a case to preserve its appearance while I put a roll of film through and decide whether to keep it. It still may be junk inside.
  15. Have you looked at Camera Archive – Certo6 ?
  16. Rusian, in general I found Pinkasov's photos very cluttered and confusing. My personal opinion.
  17. I put a bid of $150 for a coolpix A, not expecting to win but to be notified how bidding went and got it for $146 because the seller ended the auction on a Wednesday night. Several weeks i saw an ad for a new one for $106, hesitated and the next day it was priced at $1086. Always end the auction on a Sunday night. Win some, lose some.
  18. I don't consider myself a collector but when the digital revolution depressed film camera prices I bought one on EBay from time to time especially those that needed repair which I attempted, shot a roll or two and then sold back on Ebay. Eventually my purchasing got ahead of my repair/resellng and so I have maybe ten or so that are awaiting. Included are an Agfa Solinette with a Solinar lens and a bad case of green grease, an Agfa Sensor with a possible light leak, two Zeiss Contessas the best one waiting for a Tessar transplant from the other one, a Konica C35AF3 with a recurring freeze up, a Konica Off Road with a scratched lens cover glass, and a 1932 or so Elmar lens that needs a thread mount body. Unrequited wants are a Kodak Medallist II and a Kodak Reflex II but I'm not interested in respelling 120 film onto 620 spools at this stage in life.
  19. More than I need or currently want but I"ve been too lazy to sell them on EBay. Also an Emac.
