  1. I'm with you Karim. I spent years shooting Kodachrome 25. Post processing was dropping the film in a mailbox (if you were fussy you looked at the pickup times posted on the mailbox and made sure the box would remain out of the sun until then, or found a better placed mailbox). (Kodak motto, you press the shutter, we do the rest.) Now that I'm forced to start printing digital I hope to keep the process equally simple
  2. Thanks. Used to go hiking in mountains when I was younger but now I do most of my walking in nearby fields. Fortunate to live in area where various charities and governments preserve abandoned farm land for public use.
  3. For many photographic situations you are really trying to set the camera at the correct hyperfocal distance and so you use the scale rather than focussing on some particular object.
  4. The fact that they sent you previous photos with flags may have been to inform you what they want and may have been to give you a chance to refuse if you were uncomfortable with such photos.
  5. I would respectfully disagree with suggestions of an exhaust fan, because the air coming in (from under the door?)will carry lots of dust. Always use an inlet fan, which should have provision for a filter.
  6. No Words is my favorite forum. I can skim over some and linger over those I like. No (heated) discussions. No need to defend or explain a viewpoint.
  7. Drive out in the country until you can't see any buildings or people. Get out of the car and look around. Nature. An infinite number of photo ops. Or look at the No Words Forum here.
  8. That brings back memories, James. Friend and I used to text each other from adjoining rooms on rainy days. I bought one a few years back at an antiques fair and am looking for another one to see if I still have the fist.
  9. My hammer has always been a fixed lens camera and I'm perfectly comfortable seeking the right sized nail and walking away from the others.
  10. I used the standard 50 mm for years (for all subjects) but found my preferences drifting towards wider angle. Cellphones pushed me over the edge but I think I would prefer a 35 m equiv.
  11. I tend to agree with SCL. A non vertical vertical is more distracting than a tilted horizon because it is not always obvious where the horizon should be (unless you're looking at the ocean on a clear day).
  12. Nikon Coolpix A (with an optional viewfinder) or a cellphone?
  13. My past history is similar to Rick's but I.m thinking of exploring print options (relatively small prints) so I will have the chance to crop.
  14. 2, no matter how much money you have.
  15. Maybe you can change the c clip before you reassemble it so it will be easier next tims.
  16. I don't think chrome plating was done in the early 1930's (at least not in the US, Nickel plating was the common everyday for metal finishing for bicycle, autos, plumbing fixtures, etc. Chrome plate was superior and when it became available nickel plating disappeared.
  17. Probably a live class would be more interesting than an on one class. If we knew where you lived a local photonetter might know what is available. In general a digital camera would let you see results immediately rather than waiting for film to be developed and printed. Enjoy!
  18. I like the additional bracing that my face gives to the camera. My two hands alone seem to be less steady in addition to be maybe fighting each other.
  19. (This all came up because I'm too old and cheap to buy a new Leica CL with a 35mm Summicron and instead bought a used Nikon Coolpix A with a fixed 28mm lens. Now with a good pair of scissors I'm good to go.) Thanks
  20. If Eric is still curious, Kodak had half frame cardboard slide mounts and all my Kodachrome slides were returned properly mounted until a 1961 trip to England when three rolls were returned cut into film strips instead. Shortly after that my Olympus Pen D1 died so that was the end for half frame for me. Until APS-C.
