  1. Robin, my lla has a coated Xenon lens, not sure of the Rodenstock lenses of the same era.
  2. I am also a Retina lla fan, it being my only camera for years, almost always loaded with Kodachrome. But I have since used others, I also recommend the Agfa Solinette, with an Apotar or Solinar lens (also marketed as Ansco Regents). With or without rangefinders. You don't really need a rangefinder, the learning time for guesstimating distances is very short.
  3. For slide film or big enlargements, hand held, don't expect consistently good results with anything less than 1/250 shutter speed. Be happy with the photo ops you know you can utilize and enjoy the other as pleasant memories.
  4. 10,000 actuations seems a lot for a digital camera. I wonder how many actuations do the M8's have that are failing already and what fraction would 10,0000 be.
  5. Something that runs on AA batteries that she can get anywhere if needed and not have to fool around with chargers and plug and voltage adapters. And a big memory card. Tell her to be very choosy in what she photographs.
  6. There iid a very scenic route along the coast from Stavanger up to Bergen, via bus and boat with stops for photo ops. It took two days back in the 60's. - http://www.fjordtours.com/en/norway-by-car/routes-from- stavanger/stavanger-bergen-via-ryfylke-and-hardanger/ - The rail trip from Christiansand to Stavanger is leo scenic though only a few hours.
  7. Can you access the contacts in the camera for cleaning after removing the battery? I've had several cameras come back to life after cleaning the contacts. BTW I have a C35EF3 (AA batteries only) and IMHO it is the best of the extensive C35 series.
  8. Portland, Maine on Casco Bay has several islands with ferry service where you can look westward and see the sunset over the mainland US.
  9. I think the base of most films changed to a thin polyester somewhere in the 80's or 90's from something else that was thicker and the gap between the film pressure plate and the roller on cameras manufactured since then was made thinner to compensate. Thus the new thinner film base is not pressed as tightly against the frame in older cameras and will curl a bit more laterally causing a slight focus problem.
  10. I haven't seen many movies lately but when watching TV shows I often notice how poor the lighting is on many American made ones with lighting (shadows) coming from several different directions that can't be accounted for in the establishing overall scene. The British shows seem to be much more careful in this respect.
  11. IMHO anything with a button battery is too inconvenient in 2014. Look for something with AA, AAA, or CR123 batteries. Nikon L35AF, Olympus Stylus Epic, or late model Konica C35's are my favorites. A Nikon 35Ti is my dream camera.

  13. Maybe it's just my old eyes but i find my Andreoid phone almost impossible to use outdoors with the sun over my shoulder. It would be a waste of money for me to buy an expensive camera without a viewfinder, built in or clip on. Other phones and eyes may vary.
  14. I haven't been on an extended vacation in some time but if i were to plan one I think the simplicity of a film camera with a few rolls of transparency film in a carry on bag maybe with AA batteries, if needed, and a supply of mailers would be more appealing than voltage adapters, battery chargers, auxiliary hard drive or laptop. On the other hand my Nikon P50 with AA batteries, a supply of memory cards and some mailers might be equally appealing.
  15. Konica C35AF3, Elite Chrome 100, Canoscan 8800F
