i like the high key here effect very much. the only thing is that b/c of the differences in toning, the model's left side of her lips look big compared to the very faint right ones. hence, it almost looks like she has a partial bruised/fat left lip. her eyes look fantastic!
  1. assuming you took this on film (no tech data giving), seeing how it comes out on film is one part experience and depending on the previous answer, the other part luck. i like the first link you posted there, but since the colors aren't adding anything to the shot really, i would have gone for an interesting contrast in b&w. but that's just my personal opinion. nonentheless, interesting subject matter!
  2. TC, i played with a similar idea but couldn't quite decide which way i wanted to go. the front tree on the left's cropping i am not sure i was happy with in the one i originally pasted. your cropping certainly has a more lonely/desolate feel to it. thanks for stoppin' by!

another cool b&W! i like how you included the fields in the foreground, yet OOF with lots of contrast - they offer a rough vertical pattern, followed by the smoother mid ground and silhouette, followed by the impressive clouds. looks like they are falling overthemselves there like foam in a waterfall there. the detail (at least from what i can see) looks quite good! this would also look good as a panaroma shot if the sky was diverse more horizontally like this...

Peggi, sorry if i implied that if this isn't tack sharp, the image shouldn't be posted. i have only shot at near 300mm (280 on a 70-200 with 1.4x TC) and not attempted a shot through so many obstacles. i would have guessed that you had it on auto and it focused more on the branch. the 10D sensors are quite wide so that's what i figured happened. the viewfinders on the below 1 series DSLRs aren't the greatest either from what i read on these forums, but then again, i have never held a 10D. i also imagine some compression artifact might be present. anyway, i look forward to seeing more shots. :)

Paolo, i also have a coolscan V, but have only scanned color slides and negatives - never b&w. oddly enough, all the pictures that i take which i like enough to scan get converted to b&w! i would ask your question on the film/processing or digital darkroom forums or another place, for i unfortunately do not have an answer. i would think that b&w film can record more tonality differences so perhaps to begin with you have more info there. but, that's just a guess. i know some scanners are not as good as others with respect to black/white scanning. idk how well the V does. good luck with your search, and let me know what you find. cheers, asim.

quite an eerie picture (i like it!). i would perhaps have turned myself just a hair to the left so that the figure wasn't quite so close to the edge of the frame...maybe a tad more towards the center. other than that, great capture of the foggy scene!

Hi arvind, i didn't check out your folder before i posted. the reason i like my version is b/c the infrared action gives more of a white tinge with highlights to the foliage, giving the environment more of a dreamy feel to it. in this case, i think the dreamy feeling makes this place look a bit more unreal - more fantastical.

boy it took me 2 reads to get what you were saying ;) so you had to undo what you purposefully had to do in the first place. my friend just bought a D70 so hopefully i'll get to play with it this week. once again, great shot!

excellent reflection shot. since the green hues are nothing special (the black and white of the bridgee is the most important i think), i would recommend converting this to b&w or digital infrared. the intricacy of the railing and its reflection IMHO makes this pic!
