Hi Christos
Thankyou for your kind comments. My book certainly contains a lot of my best images but I have to tell you that they are chosen primarily to make a "visual point" and necessarily they contain images from around the world rather than just Scotland because the book is being sold internationally. That said I am pretty pleased with it and hope it will serve to inspire others. Feel free to put up some feedback on the Amazon site though.
Best regards
Ian

A spherical boulder beneath the Cuillin on Skye a geological oddity
amongst more angular rocks.
-
A day of blizzards and sunshine culminating in a blushing pink sunset
over the Cuillin, Skye from Elgol.
Please vieww at FULL size.

A golden mist lowered itself over Castle Stalker, Loch Appin, Scotland
and provided me with a wonderfully atmospheric scene which I happily
photographed to convey as much of that gorgeous atmosphere that I
could muster from it.

Hah love the title and the photo is excellent. Again the colour combinations work very well congrats.

Thats a very lovely shot of the sea surging between the Hopeman rocks Fergus, beautifully done under a most suitable and moody steel sky.

Torridon Scotland and strawberry light streaming in below low cloud just
following a winter squall. It lasted about a minute flickered and died.
For the record it matches my tranny.

Hi Nils
I tend to disagree with what you are saying as the sky for me is what makes this image so strong.... but more to the point I appreciate a well thought out and considered critique someone that actually provides a reason for their particular dislike/likes is worth its weight in gold and should never be ignored. That said I still disagree but that is both mine and yours prerogative and I certainly do not take any offence.

Aah I see Mr/Mrs 3,3 is back like an invasive cancer. Whoever it is must have some astonishingly good work. I know I'd love to see it...

My Cubist period. The Blackmount gorgeously lit and beautifully
reflected in a mirror smooth lochan.

Please click on the image to view it at full size it looks much more impressive.

A sublime reflection of Blackmount in Rannoch moor, Glencoe,
Scotland and I was the only one there.

Hi Carl yes it is the Nikon 9000ED some of my older stuff is with an Epson 3200 flatbed which despite rave reviews on sharpness and consistency of hue is considerably less accomplished in every department when compared to a true film scanner. Original scanned for 20 x 16 output at 300dpi (adobe RGB 19998) 16 bit resolution. You do the maths re. scanner true dpi. Original tranny 2.75 x 2.25 inches.

Virtually identical to the original transparency. The only adjustments made in photoshop is with a very basic curves and even then a very minor shift to raise the overall brightness and bring it into alignment with the slide on a lightbox. however the mauin adjustment is done at the picture taking stage where a 3 stop hard edged neutral density graduated filter has been applied to the base of the tree. For the record the other (whispering grass) has had the same processing applied namely curves sharpen. I have never used HDR and only ever blended exposures once I don't particularly like it. I do my utmost to match the transparency as viewed on a lightbox.

Whispering grasses sigh in the warm blush of a summer afternoon near
Sligachan, Skye.

A winter sunset over Dava Moor in Moray, Scotland. There are few finer
places to be.

Black fissures shaped like starfish pucture the bleak grey ice on
desolate Rannoch Moor.

This skeletal tree is one of the highlights of Rannoch moor I shot it on a
very dull day but the menacing look of the tree in silhouette and the
ominous sky certainly add the forboding I was hoping to convey.

Frozen Loch Achanalt in Strathbane, Scotland. Minus 18 degrees
celcius and my fingers have still not recovered from frost bite.

Morning blush over deep frozen Loch Achanalt, Strathbane Scotland.

A frosted birch tree at the edge of Loch a Chroisg temperature minus 16
degrees celcius. I think my finger tips have become frost bitten!!

Hi Miroslav each to their own, nothing I can say will make you change your mind about it but I can assure you I liked it or I wouldn't have uploaded it. This picture is several years old and consistently sells so something about it must be appealing and it will resurface again as a limited edition print for the supermarket chain Lidl's in 2009. I admit the processing is rough here, but this was originally presented years ago and scanned on an Epson flatbed with no profiling, viewed on a low cost monitor and adjusted in an early version of Photoshop Elements. It has since been re-scanned. The version below is identical to the original tranny and I can assure you it appears exactly as intended including my choice of composition.

Hi Peter no secret. Lifes to short for them. I use a rather beaten up but very good Gitzo 1325 which is a heavy duty carbon fibre fella and an unusually light but stiff tripod. I use it with a RRS 50mm ball head. It is just a case of set it and forget it.

Bubbles of ice seeping from the perimeter of the tanin stained
submerged stones have frozen into the ice forming champagne bubble
trails. This picture really works best viewed as large as possible.
Elgol Crimson

A favourite mountain backdrop combined with a crimson patch of sky so
rich in hue that the mountains looked like they'd cut themselves and
were bleeding. I was leading a workshop with a group of Russians at
the time I am sure they had equal success.
