A wave withdraws at mellon Udrigle a red sand beach with a
magnificent backdrop. The sky was heavy, grey and sombre but the
mountains were indigo and the sea a luminous green.

Thank you Nicole I couldn't ask for more than that. You are most kind.

the illusion of paradise is quickly shattered. Boy they hurt...

A scene beyond words. sunrise over the roof tops of Torridon from

Hi Mike yes it is. That one was called Spartan pines and was taken in deep winter with a viscious hoar frost on the ground. It still remains one of my favourite shots and is extremely popular. This of course was taken in Summer not a time of year i particularly enjoy as I find the overwhelming mass of green generally uninteresting. For me this gets away with it as the subjects are quite stark and strong with tinges of red on the bark and thankfully the greens are very different shades throughout.

I know this place well david and I like your version from this place immensely. It was the boat shed far side that gave it away.

Gorgeous shot Marc and a wonderful sky matched by a visually exciting foreground, well done.

Thank you for your kind comments.
I think I prefer the basic composition as is. Whilst the base is a little mucky being low tide it serves to show the proximity of the cottages to the sea front quite nicely. This place was on the TV news a couple of weeks later as heavy rains caused a mud slide to envelop the village. The sky could be cropped a little but I feel it's interesting enough and moody enough to justify staying.
Abid, I'm afraid I don't have or use digital cameras so it would be inappropriate of me to suggest the best digital camera for your photography.

Nice shot of an astoundingly beautiful beach. Love the inclusion of the palm tree shadows.

Gorgeous Brian did you breathe on the lens the nearer brush would indicate you did. I haven't read yor tech details yet.

Hi James sorry for not getting back to you I only just found your comment. You have almost answered the question yourself. I metered off the foreground with a separate spot meter and placed it at -1 stop that made it dark but with detail. I metered thebrightest bit of sky and made that + 1.5 stops to retain some sky details. noted the difference btetween the two which was as previously indicated ridiculously high and then used the 5 stops of graduation over the sky to field junction to reduce this difference to approx 3.5 to 4 stops. Hope that helps. Of course ther was also the problem that while I was exposing the film it was still getting darker so an element of luck has crept into the equation.
