Not bad but check this similar one out by Ilona Wellman as a bit of inspiration.

  1. One of these was also pranged here in NZ a couple of years ago, fortunately no injuries except to the Hunter, It requires a serious rebuild. One of the most beautiful warplanes
  2. The title caught my eye immediately Maria. I am not an Italian speaker but for an instant I could have sworn it said "Viva la Duce!" or is that French? You have had some good constructive advice from all that have honestly critiqued, instead of those who just praised the image or insulted other posters.
  3. Thanks for the comment Martin.

I just checked out the EXIF data (one advantage of digital!) The shutter speed was reasonably fast for this one, 200asa at 800th 0f a sec with an aperture of f8, hand held with a 1.4 convertor, (448mm equivialent on a D60/10D) and some people reckon Sigma 70- 200 2.8 EX aren't sharp!

I usually use aperture preferred auto in even lighting like this and adjust the aperture and ASA if nessesary to select an appropriate shutter speed. Erin

  4. It is an extremely dangerous manoeuvre and I presume these guys are fighter pilots, The aircraft is very close to the ground and at high speed, how long would it take to cover 100 metres travelling at 450 KPH? I'm not a very good mathematician but I work that out to be 8 seconds. Not much time for error. (Oh, thanks for putting that essential decimal point in there Arash!)

Beautiful.....the subject, the composition, the lighting, the mood, the plaits, like tears in shadow, the image ..... and you can learn something from Mr Average and lower raters Fred, feel pity for those that cannot see beauty, rather than anger, then you don't take on their misfortune.

    I'll beat you

Heh.... he, you have a cruel and original mind Bob Archer, but why not a before and after shot so we can educate our kids about road s...kills?

An image does not have to be technically perfect to be excellent as this great photograph proves. Considering the very heavy Sigma lens used, and it's slow wide apertures, hand held probably, plus the fact the aircraft is almost at mach 1 (over 700 miles an hour) This is an astounding image, perfectly timed.

We have two Aeronautical Engineers that are also good photographers that are very impressed with this pic, and plenty of members that are just good photographers that have made this a well deserved top photo. Speaks for itself. Just great.
