Paul, if you'd stated it was event coverage for a local paper in the first place then maybe I could understand why it's here.

Though I'd still say it should be in the events category, but then maybe that's a matter of opinion.

    Good tonal range etc..

Far too soft though. Other than it's fine.

Can't help thinking I shoot close in from his left side and let the neck of the guitar lead out. Just a thought.

  1. It is in the right catagory. I'd agree that it's not a stand alone picture but as part of the series it works well. Where Dan says overused and cliched I'd say classic. Children often make news pictures, they are much less self conscious in front of the camera and also represent the future etc etc..

I like the way the child here appears to be hiding round this corner and the intriguing expression.

  2. This is a strong picture and one that is difficult to comment on.

Looked at the other pictures in the folder, and this along with some of the others could maybe benifit from a lower perspective. Getting level or slightly lower than the subject can often be even more engaging. Don't be afriad to get on your knees!

    Do please post more.

  3. Great picture and you have captured some movement in the performer, good compositon etc... I think you could make more of it however. The highlights are blowing and you could do with burning the background. Could be stunning.

Photos often age well. This is indeed the right forum, history is important and photography or photojournalism now plays a big part in recording history. Keep posting this stuff Bill! Are you re-printing today or digging out old prints?
  4. Marina, your exposure is spot on as usual so all the information is there. It's just a matter of fiddling in levels (many prefer curves), followed by hue/saturation. It's simple. Some of the skin tones and colours in these photos are interesting in their own right. Only you know what you saw! All the best.
  5. As usual your pictures are excellant. I'm not too sure about the colour balance, but then I wasn't there so I'm not sure how it should look. A little more contrast on the skin brings out the detail in those wounds, a couple of which look frighteningly fresh. Oh anybody looking at this picture should click on the large button I think.

    I can't imagine the pain.
