  1. Daniel,

Any current Rollei HFT/EL/PQ/PQS lenses will work with the AF but without the ability of AF. As you perhaps know already there are only three AF lenses currently 80/2.8 PQS, 180/2.8 and 60-140/4.6. The flash system I recommend Metz (45 CL4 to 70 MZ5) and Quantum flash as you could do TTL with both system with.

As an alternative lens I would highly recommend the 60/3.5 PQ distagon, I love this lens, other you might want consider the 80/2.8 AF xenotar as your main lens. But as wider angle you might want to look the 40/3.5 Schneider (I'm planning to get on of this also). But I'm sure your choice of the 50/2.8 is a good lens which I don't have any experience with this one. For low light 80/2.0 and 110/2.0 would be the choice.

Good luck with your choice and BTW you wouldn't really gonna use this system as photojournalist would you? better get the new Canon 1d markII, IMHO. Happy shooting!.

  2. Markus,

It might be a bad luck for you to get such an overrated item from Adorama.I bought couple Rollei lenses from them (60 distagon & 180 tele xenar) they all as they stated 9 out of 10. And all their reps were nice to me (I talked to Matthew), not only that they gave me good deal on other Rollei accs (filters and hood) and gave me free shipping express overnight for all of them.So I guess I just being lucky, if I were you I definetely will return the camera before the warranty or their return policy expired, it usually has 100 days service warranty and 14 days return.Good luck!.

  3. Allison,

One other vote for Rollei, I have the integral and love it with lenses choices from Zeiss and Schneider, range from 30-1000mm and flash sync up to 1/1000 with some of the lenses.6x6, 6x4,5 you name it (BTW this 645 back is the most shopisticated 645 back in MF system, you don't have to rotate the camera you only need to rotate the back and it has 120/220 capability) .Auto focus or manual it's on the system, you choose. If I were you and has the budget for brand new I'd go with AF model since you can also use the manual lenses. If yo do lots of studio you probably love the master control unit, it's a must!.I know this camera depend on batt but how many rolls do you exactly need for one session? one batt can hold easily 40-50 and for me that's more than enough. Good luck with the choice!.

  4. Antonio,

Fuhgeddaboutit! seriously no matter what they do with those Kievs you still find problems. If you want some interchangeable lenses MF just get the Hassy 500CM to start with (can get this around $700) or some Bronicas/Mamiya 645 model.

I notice that you've been toying around with Yashica 124 so if you like to get another TLR with more sophisticate lens/optic get the Rolleiflex type 3.5E/F or 2.8E/F the latter might be more expensive but everything with Rollei are worth the money.Or if you like TLR with interchangeable lens go with Mamiya C330 ( I used to have 330S with lenses from 55 to 180 but sold it and stick again with Rollei 3.5).Don't buy junk camera but if you like to burn your cash and get those Kievs (no offense with Kievs users but just face the reality) go ahead there's nothing wrong with it, it's your money anyway.I know some people have had luck with Kievs but most of the times badluck.

Good luck with your choice and BTW I like your site! keep on the good job, happy shooting!.

head/strobes with modelling lamp capibility up to 250w/s and in good

  8. Hi,

I have a pretty good deal on estate sale for a Rolleilex 3.5E with

some accesories, but I haven't paid it yet since I told the owner

(an old couple) that there's blemish on the taking lens and some

marks (I guess from cleaning or something). Also on the viewing lens

there's discoloration but this one I'm not that worry since will not

affect the picture. Do you think Harry Fleenor or Ross Yerkes can do

something to fix this if I send it to them? BTW could please give me

contact info on these two persons?.

I need to find out and fortunately the owner understand me and give

me time to check what do I have to do about this, thanks and

    appreciate any info.

  9. Hi all,

I don't know if this has been asked before but if you don't mind I

would like to know how good is it Galen Rowell's from Singh Ray

compare to Lee on their line of graduated NDs? Price Galen is more

expensive (twice) and are they made from resin also? Anyone has

experienced with these two? I decide to go with Lee system after

long thoughts cause the idea of using several filters with different

lenses. But what concern me is the quality of resin vs glass, I use

Heliopan currently for all my lenses but can not adjust if I do have

to buy more filters for each size of my lenses (bay VI and 95mm

size, exactly they are expensive). So this would help me out lil'bit

financially as I'm not gonna use ND filters all the time. And I

perhaps would like to get the B&W kit also for this Lee system that

I'm gonna get. Thanks for any infos and happy shooting!.

  10. Hi,

As I'm planning to get a wide angle lens to do some landscape with

my integral system. I have questions about the 40/f4 distagon for

Rollei, besides the PQ and Non PQ capability difference, Do you

think they are the same optical design and quality? how's the

sharpness, contrasty, flare, etc?.Anyone have experience the older

style, can you share any pictures taken with this lens? (email me

private if the forum won't let to post picture, if you don't

mind).Thank you and have a nice weekend!.

  12. So I went to the beach to take some engagement pictures with my Rollei 6008i and this crowded beach (Corona Del Mar, California)cause it happens to be the most popular spot in my area to take sunset kinna setting with rocks and the ocean as your background, so I was walking and every other photographers that day were asking what kind of camera I have? they mostly use Hassy and Mamiya. It's just nice to be different but don't get me wrong I didn't choose my Rollei just because to be different and not so many people here in US use this camera but I like their features (TTL metering, etc), lines of lenses, ergonomic and hand grip, yes hand grip is the most obvious Rollei is better than Hassy. But again it's only my personal choice, others might say different things. And sytle of your photography will also be your factors when choosing camera. So good luck with your choice and happy shooting!.

  13. Hi all,

I need your advice on choosing a back up body for my 6008i system, I

have three options which are 6001, 6003 pro or 6008 pro.Which one do

you think I would be better with? I could buy 6001 body new and

pretty much the same price with a used 6008 pro (body only) or 6003

pro but more money since they have 120 back already attached on the

body, it's just the 6008 pro is older version and they all used

(only their metering system is my consideration as they are the same

with 6008i). since I only shoot with 120 back and never cross in my

mind to use 220 (for now) so that's one of the reason 6003 is one of

my choice. Thanks for all users input on these Rollei model, have a

    nice weekend!.

  14. Hi,

I'm trying to get a slot/drop in filter system as I'm beginning my

venture on landscape photography, I need some info on these two

system which one is better? price is not an object. Also I'm gonna use

some lenses with 95mm size, I had Cokin P before but due to no

available 95mm adapter size so I have to choose the X pro, Lee has

the adapter size for my lens and they also have for my bay VI lenses

    adapter ring.

Another question is I'm interesting to get the ND filters from Singh

Ray but I didn't see size for the Cokin X Pro only Cokin P, but they

do have it on Lee.Do you think Singh Ray would acommodate the X pro ?

I also found out about Heliopan ND grad filters with 75x120mm size

anybody familiar with these? how are they compare with Singh Ray or

Tiffen? Thank you for your time to post inputs on my questions, have

    a nice day!.

  15. If you do sport, fast action photography the answer is yes go ahead with 1D otherswise is unnecessary. It doesn't make your photography better in anyway!.For me you might get a better lens for your 10D like "L" series lenses than upgrading the 10D, or if you do have the budget go straight with 1DS or 1D mark II.Just my 2cents, cheers!

  16. Hi All,

Couple weeks ago I saw on E*bay a Heliopan graduated ND square

filter (it's 75mmx120mm size), I'm interesting to know more about

this filter.I've tried to look on B&H and ADORAMA if they carry this

filter but no result, is this suppose to be fit into Lee, Hitech or

Cokin filter system? I don't know if Heliopan makes such filter

system (drop in type). Are they new ? I like the idea of using drop

in filter, cause I will mostly do landscape and I know the quality

of Heliopan (I currently use their UV and KR3). I Used to have Cokin

with my 35mm camera but didn't really like the results ( I know, I

know, price is my consideration before, so I had to choose Cokin and

now learn my lesson of using high quality glass filters) , and now I

really would like to give Lee or Hitech a try.

Back to the Heliopan filter question, where can I find the adapter

ring, filter holder etc? any experience with this filter? And I know

Singh Ray also make good drop in filters (the Galen Rowell Grad ND)

for Lee, Cokin and Hitech. I Hope Mr.Bob Solomon would be around and

give me info on this. Many thanks for your infos and have a nice

    weekend!.

  17. Hi William,

For me the workflow of medium format is differ from 35mm, I personaly loves big negatives (especially using slides), 6x6(square) format, viewing your image from view finder is just another world.I too have 1v but now is just sitting in closet collecting dust and thinking to sell it soon, get DSLR for my 35mm substitute.I've used 10D before but not really like it some of their features.

I started with Rollei TLR's (it was 3.5F Xenar), and from that point I just keep added my collection with Mamiya 330 and Yashica but eventually I sold it all and getiing more serious with MF with my 6008i.It's not expensive to get a MF system nowadays, as more forum member will give you advise to start with TLR as the cheapest and easiest starting point. You could get a nice yashica 124 for $150 now or get nice Rollei TLR for another hundred buck on Ebay or here (offcourse depends on the model).

Also with MF you have so many choices of format, let's say 6x4,5, 6x6 as I mentioned above, 6x7, 6x8 etc. Also system that you could choose based on your budget, but you said that you likely get Hassy, It's a very good choice consider you like to do manual shoots.Start with 500CM or newer such as 501C/CM, but avoid the 2000 series Hassy as they've stopped production for parts of the camera>I too almost get this one as their price was attempting but after good research here on photo.net, I decided to get Rollei TLR. So do your search on this subject.

I'm not a pro myself, I just love cameras and try anything that I could but at some point I have stopped and choose my system and that is Rollei. Some people has different opinion offcourse, and I respect that. And MF is not only studio camera, many landscape photographer using MF as their main system (pentax 6x7 is mainly choice for this field).Mamiya RZ or RB is consider studio camera (fashion, people).Hassy can be both world equally, and Contax with their AF system (but you don't want this right? ), and offcourse Fuji with 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 format (landscape MF also), and many more.

So you have to make your choice based on your photography style and then adapt the camera system that will fulfill your needs. As far I could give you advise is that's not hurt to start with TLR (it will cover all style of photography needs in general).Good luck with your research and happy shooting!.
