  1. Roger,

White look finishing on the lens doesn't make your picture any better does it? for your needs I'd say go with 70-200. I talso just bought the same lens but IS version, actually I own 10D too and also own the 135/2 and 200/2.8 primes but I'd give this 70-200 beast a try.If I don't like it I'll sell it but if I do, I'll sell the 200/2.8 instead since I don't have to buy 85 focal length range to complete my need which is portrait also.

  2. Yes, they also mentioned that other manufacturer such as pentax, Konica Minolta, Olympus will start a very affordable DSLR for under $1000, I bet they will sell for $700 something to anticipate DigiRebel and D70. Boy oh boy, still remember the song "Video kill the radio star"? and now "Digital camera kill the film camera star". Offcourse not now but soon... and very soon...
  3. First important thing when thinking to switch or getting a MF system is budget, budget, budget. Set your budget first and we all can help on which system would suit you best. Anyway since MF price is going down now I'd recommend buying used so you will still hold value bit better than buying new if you decide to sell later on or upgrade to another camera brand.

Buying from reputable seller like KEH.com is your best bet as they have 7-14 days warranty or your local camera store, eBay might be option for price study and if you know and confident with some seller and they offer you warranty that would be good enough.

Your style of photography also will affect which MF camera will do for you. Any MF camera will give a better enlargement result than your 35mm camera. I have Rollei 3.5F TLR and use it for street photography and it's awesome! but that's my style for more serious work like studio portrait, landscape which I need more than one lenses I go with my 6008 AF system.

So get your self a good budget and not neccesarily sell your 35mm if you decide to take plunge cause again MF price is at it's best now and even better in the next year or two. Good luck and happy shooting!.

  4. Rodolfo,

I haven't got the zoom yet but it's coming on the way. That's why I asked for those who has used these two lenses. I know from 200mkII that I own has been given me excellent result, and that's why before I bought this 70-200 I was thinking to buy 85 but there the zoom with a very good price that I can not pass on.I know this is a "stupid question" for some expert in this beloved photo.net but it doesn't hurt me to hear from someone else for their opinion that I don't want to hear and I'm taking it easy.

  5. Folks,

I just been fortunate to get a 70-200/2.8 IS for $999 plus tax

(Refurb with 6 mos warranty bought from Canon direct). Question is

as I already own a 200mkII and love it, how's the sharpness,

contrast, etc between the 70-200 IS at 200mm with the 200mkII at all

aperture?. I almost bought an 85/1.8 &100/2 as I already have

100/2.8 macro and 135/2 so the only focal length I don't have is 85.

I do portrait at the most, and those lenses I can not be part with,

but the thing is I have to low maintenance cost. I know the

flexibility of having zoom is nice but the good thing of primes is

they are prime lenses. Thanks for the advice and really appreciate!.

  6. Micha,

Rollei 6000 series also has that bellow extension to use for macro but there's other option such as 9,17,34 and 68 extension ring.Or you also have the option to use reversal/retro adapter so you can use enlargement lens.

And the extra bucks of AF and integral is a lot, we're talking $2000 different here in US not sure in Euro but not worth it for starter (Used gear is the best way to do MF right now).Besides of that the AF lenses theyhave currently only 80, 180 and 60-140 Variogon (would stay from this monster) so pretty much we still use the manual lenses for more choices.Cheers and happy shooting!.

  7. Micha,

To answer your questions I will start with SL66 or 66SE doesn't take digital back only the latest Rollei 6000 series will accept that. And besides AF the 6008 AF has similiar features with the integral. If i were you I'd stick with integral body, and later on you can step up with AF, you can also go with 6001 or 6003 for sure they are cheaper but these days MF gear price is going down. Digital back price is stil way up there the price, wish in a year or two they will hit floor price under US $5K?.

Lenses there are so many options from Rollei, but for fashion I'd like the 90 APO and 180 TEle Xenar, Architectural there's 55 Shift lens all from Schneider. 120 Zeiss Makro also good for product correct me if I'm wrong guys.

If you live in europe there are two options Robert White (www.Robertwhite.co.uk) or ffordes (www.ffordes.com/ co.uk), also you might want to try Hongkong Vendor from

Anthony Lee (www.accphoto.com). I know that US dollar value is cheaper now against UK pounds or Euro dollar so you might want to try Kurlanphotography, Mike from www. Ctrades.com (Very nice guy) but I'm sure you'llhave to pay custom, etc if you decide to buy overseas.

Good luck and welcome to wonderful world of Rollei!.

  8. Guys,

As I bought a 3.5F recently (more TLR soon), come to my surprise the

seller gave me Rolleinar set (1+2) so I would like to know and get

some advice on how to use these two lenses? Thanks and appreciate

    all infos!.

PS: Mark Hansen if you read this, I'd like to thank you on your post

on how to check an old Rolleiflex, seems mine is okay as your

    suggestion.

  9. For me the answer is easy, for digital work I use my recently bought and affordable 10D with some good Canon L glass, for Film I still use my Rollei 6008 along with my old 3.5F Rolleiflex TLR. I even think to buy old IIIF leica just to have fun again with 35mm film, for large format it's just not my style so I stay away from this. Anyway digital or film as long as I can shoot and take pictures, I am a happy guy simple as that!.

  10. John,

For macro I'd suggest the 100 macro USM (used around $350), portrait could be from 85/1.8 to 100/2 to 135/2, tele photo could be 200/2.8 or 300/4 IS. This could left you much money (85, 100, 200) than the 100-400 IS alone. I just purchased these lenses 50/1.4,85/1.8,100/2.8 USM Macro, 135/2 L and 200/2.8 L MKII. I almsot pick up the 70-200 IS but the desire to get 135/2 EF L lens has left me with this route of primes. Good luck with your choice!.
