Hi there, I have lost the ability to upload photos. The upload appears to be working, the progress bar almost gets to 100% then the process stops at which point a message tells me the upload has failed. The photo format and size is the same as successful uploads last week, is this just me or is a known issue.................GC.

unable to upload a jpeg

I have lost the ability to upload photos

I wasn't able to duplicate the problem in using either Chrome or Safari, either in uploading to the portfolio or to threads. Is the problem still occurring or might it have been a temporary issue? Were you uploading to your portfolio or to a thread? And which browser were you using? (If it was Firefox, there are some others who share the problem, and there's a thread on this forum that discusses some solutions (here).

Photo.net appears in all my photography related google searches. Unfortunately, i must now omit Photo.net from my searches because 80% of the photo.net links I click on are broken. I see other search related issues in the bug list, but not this specifically. Maybe this will sort itself out with the other search feature fixes?

Photo.net is an awesome resource for photography. Please keep up the good work and squash those bugs!!

Hi Leslie, thank you for your answer. To answer your questions I use Chrome and was having trouble uploading to the portfolio. I tried re uploading the last photo I had successfully uploaded and found this was OK. The only difference I could see was that I chosen Save for Web in PS Elements. So I did the same with the problem photo and it uploaded fine. The difference being that the MetaData had been stipped out. Is this now a feature of PN2, and the Metadata has to be lost. .......Regards GC.

MetaData had been stipped out

I haven't been able to get metadata to upload properly, either, but from the site design I'm guessing that this will be a bug that's soon to be patched. The first time I uploaded and metadata were gone, I discovered I'd inadvertently made a preset in Lightroom that stripped the metadata. Once I fixed that, though, the metadata uploaded but they appear to have loaded into the wrong categories.

but not this specifically

Thanks, Mark - I'll add it to the list.

Dell Insprion and Dell XPS 8500, Windows 10 64 bit, Firefox 51.0.1 64 bit version on both machines, uBlock ad blocker on one, bluehell firewall on the other machine (browser ad on). Norton security. Only jpegs show as upload options from folders containing tiff, jpeg, and pdf files. I was trying to upload to a forum thread.

Suggestions in the provided link failed to help.

Other photo sites that did an upgrade worked quickly without much fanfare. This is the only site I have trouble with.

Firefox 51.0.1

What I did when I was having some problems with Safari compatibility early on was download Google Chrome and set it up as an icon on my desktop that I could use just to access the site--that way I didn't have to change my default browser. The Firefox/Photonet combination does seem to have issues at the moment. Using an alternative browser isn't convenient, but it might be a useable short-term workaround until the problem is fixed.

I have chrome on the XPS for a special usage, tried it, it worked for the upload.

Don't know what "partly solved: differs by browser" means. I have had no luck -- on Debian Linux -- with Chromium, Firefox ESR, Midori and Epiphany.

Shoot me a direct message with a link example of what is broken. All photo and gallery links should be in tact, we test daily. so "start a conversation" with me here in forums with the links in question and we'll check them out.

I saw this 'upload to cover photo' and it looked like a nice idea. Now I have part of a huge head floating in space and the complete photo itself is missing from my gallery. How do I remove a cover photo, please?

No offense, to you good owners of photo.net. But I really can't stand this new site, except for the fact the photos pop out a bit better. Not intuitive, hard to navigate,. I really liked the old style, go to photo admin and just change things around. I am having a real twilight zone experience here.

When composing a reply to a thread, the box for composing one's reply says 'Write your reply..." - When you begin keying the reply it types over the 'write your reply' message making the first few words of the composition difficult to re-read.

"write your reply" is no gone from our Rich Text Editor. 417938132_ScreenShot2017-03-02at6_16_12PM.png.e371039b37a36542eeb32d19a4c2d7c6.png

Been away for awhile and trying to sort out new site. When uploading images and assigning a category, it seems the category list is in disarray - duplicate and triplicate entries, no discernable sequence, and, at least, one category from old list (children) is no longer on the list.(OK, I see children now go under family, a decision I am not sure I agree with. In my travels, I photograph a lot of 'developing world' images of children at play or street portraits. They definitely aren't family. Guess I need to categorize them as travel or street.

Yes - Children is in family now. We realize it is not a one size fits all scenario, but felt based on what that category was mostly used for "family" was a more appropriate title. If photographing children while traveling broad - I would classify that as travel or street or journalism depending on the photo and setting.

Not sure how things are prioritizing for fixes but these major issues are still problematic:

1. Initial Portfolio View only shows the 4 most recent galleries no more. Gallery view preference makes no difference regardless of browser (Chrome, Firefox, or IE-11)

2. Cover photo does not remain set in Portfolio View regardless of browser. (Does remain set in Profile View however).

3. There is no camera data for a majority of images and the fields are not editable. New uploads do display EXIF data rather cryptically in the Edit Details of the Picture window. "My camera equipment" data has not yet been recovered and is no longer displayed for images without EXIF metadata.

4. My custom fields no longer display. - More information about the model, the story behind the picture, etc. These have had information in them for years.

5. Gallery and full Portfolio comments are gone.

6. Recent uploads from photographers I am following are no longer seen. (Used to rely on this to check-out new uploads.)

7. The Gallery Header image for the four galleries that do display (these are the only ones that display), appear to be determined by the first image in the gallery. This setting appears to have been changed? I thought there was a dialogue box to set the header image? Most verticals (portrait format) or images with borders make crappy headers and the 75 pixel per inch image/screen resolution doesn't work very well for any header. Will I now have to use only landscape format images first and then higher resolution images in addition too for that first image?

8. Continuously getting HTTP "404" Not Found errors in other photographer's galleries. The only option is to go back to previous or click the "Home" link on that page, which totally removes you from the gallery. There is no way to effectively navigate forward with this error.

  • I've just about run out of both hope and patience as we are nearly through our third week with this V2. For a brief moment I thought there might be a bit of sanity with the addition of the My Library choice. Initially it was a very clean design with galleries that could be accessed from a drop-down menu. galleries loaded quicker, perhaps because the thumbnails were smaller and for the most part the entire folder could be seen at a glance with a minimum of scrolling. Even though the photos could not be seen by the membership, at least it was a design that made sense and that perhaps you could build on. I went there today to see that the images in the gallery were partially covered by that ugly information band. Would it be so difficult to only have that band appear when you hovered your cursor over an individual picture? The big new addition is the button to change pictures from Private to Public. Now I have 142 folders of which all of 15 are shown in my Gallery view. Of those 15, 11 are dark, the pictures not available. If I change the designation from private to public on each individual picture (would it have killed you to have a button to switch the whole gallery to Public?) that gallery will perhaps become visible, pictures and all, in my Gallery section. However, if that gallery is not included (for God knows what reason) in my Gallery group, the pictures still remain hidden. Remember, I have 142 folders of which only 15 are listed under Galleries. Let me ask you guys in management, do you actually test out these changes before you institute them? This is by no means the only serious problem with viewing pictures or navigating galleries. Back arrows often take me right out of galleries or back to the top of the gallery I've been viewing...... The USER gallery is impossible to use since the thumbnails (why?) are not in any recognizable order. Navigating through the new uploaded pictures from photographers I follow is difficult because in every case after viewing a particular picture, the back arrow takes me back to the very top, no matter where I was before. If you could make money scrolling, I'd be a millionaire...... On my portfolio page, only 100 of my Favorite Photos are visible; on on my Homepage, 435 are listed. However, if you choose one for viewing and then use the back arrow, it takes me completely out of Favorite Photos, replaced by my portfolio.....I hope you are able to follow all this because just trying to keep it straight in my mind gets me dizzy. If any members with large portfolios have had different or better results than I have, please let me know. For me at least, it's been pretty frustrating.

I have a similar number of photos and folders (galleries or whatever they are now) and I'm experiencing the same woes as you.

So, where or how do you add to that list? I see how to do it in forum posts, but if a spammer wants to upload a bunch of porn to the image critique section and they have never posted in the forum's, there seems to be no way to block them. I have seen several guys join photo.net and do nothing but upload and share pics of their peckr. I would like to block that sort of content.

The Ignore function works.

Go to your account settings, click on "people you ignore"

https://www.photo.net/discuss/account/ignored

You cannot ignore yourself.

You get the following for people on ignore list. You can easily stop ignoring people as well.
