<p>Craig, you have it right. NBA is one of the worst to deal with as they want everything and will go after anyone. They have even gone after photo labs that hang a photo of one of their players in its lobby to show the printing they do for the Team. Nasty people to deal with.<br>

The NFL isn't quite that bad but... they will and do go after those uses they don't see benefitting the league in some fashion.<br>

Fine Art is its own catagory and from what we have seen in the courts one might have a much better chance of winning against any of these entities if it came to that. Also a better chance of ACLU or 'friends' of the photo world providing legal assistance or even taking the load for you if you end up in court.<br>

Our definition and someone else's definition of "commercial" use is usually much different. Much of the time the guy with deep pockets and entire cities of lawyers on retainer wins. At the least they bleed a person for years before they lose and that fact alone keeps many from ever trying.<br>

My favorite tho is the Tiger Woods dispute. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.</p>

<p>Try getting an 85 f/1.8 and a 200 f/2.8. Both sharp and fast enough to follow sports as it happens if the camera body or you focus fast enough.<br>

You might try getting a used Canon EOS 1DMkII or MkIIn. They AF fast and the image quality is excellent, even for an older camera. You still see a lot of them on the sidelines of NFL, NBA and MLB events.</p>

This is a link for one of the units I am looking at.</p>

<p>I am looking at lightning triggers or sensors for the camera. The type that sense the flash and quickly trip the shutter so I get a daylight photo before the flash disappears. My reaction time is way too slow to do this successfully for anything but the double hits.<br>

One I saw also works for small object setups and that would be a real plus.<br>

Anyone with field experience using various types of these electronc marvels is welcome to give their advice. I have a bit til lightning season as I have to wait for Winter to stop first - tho we do get lightning storms with snow at times.</p>

<p>Easy to do with the light and fog. No reason it can't be real given exposure and camera settings. Even with just a tweak for contrast it is easy to find images in light like this when you have fog. I am trying to upload an image, see if it works.<br>

The fog and light is easy to see when you are out and shooting into the sun. Tweaks a bit for contrast and color can help. The image in question has some tweaks to contrast and possibly color intensified a bit as well as burning in a few areas but is something many of us have seen before.</p>

<p>One way to check things out is to tell them your brother is a police officer in their area and you need the street address so he can come by and pay cash and pick up the item.<br>

These guys usually disappear quickly with this offer.<br>

Two good friends have used it and avoided ripoffs while one actually did have a relative near who followed through and he got an unbelievable deal on camera and lenses. Was a divorce with court ordered sale and the guy dumped it to short his ex. Since it was picked up and paid for and then out of State - who knows if the Judge nailed him later but the gear is still working and being used.</p>

If it is sold as "Art" you should be just fine. Chuck Gentile beat the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And sports artist Rick Rush beat Tiger Woods. Philip Lorcia Dicorcia won the right to use a street photograph as 'art' for his book.<br>

News and Art are two areas that give us more freedom to work in public areas than many realize.<br>

Be aware something like these lawsuits cost money to defend. But with precedents like this you are probably on safe ground.</p>

<p>This camera sure looks closer to the Leica M series than anything else out there. Will be interesting to see the image quality compared to the M9.<br>

Might be nice having a decent rangefinder camera with AF and not the insane Leica pricing.</p>

Harry, these are not copying the image after seeing it from someone else. It matters not that you have seen hundreds of the same stretched out wide receiver with the ball at the end of his fingertips... your position and lens and view is yours alone. Others are very similar but each is an original photograph.<br>

Seeing a specific image and being asked to copy it are what turned against this photographer and the company that hired him. If he had come up with it on his own there would be no problem.<br>

Try making photos in B&W with artificial tears and see what the Man Ray folks do. Try doing melting clocks or flying toasters... In much of the world the 'happy face' is copyrighted and you will get nailed for using it.</p>

<p>Lenses vary in quality even among L series offerings. Once you find one that performs well - why would you sell it uness moving on or a definate change in shooting circumstances?</p>

<p>A camera you can use is always better than a mirage.</p>

<p>Follow the advice and jump through the hoops and do a DMCA notice.<br>

You <em>have </em>also formally registered your copyright, right?</p>

<p>The reasoning is simple. The photographer had seen the image and was out to make a copy so the company would not have to pay licensing fees from the original photographer.<br>

Anyone who shoots a similar image without this happening has no problem.</p>

<p>Why not shoot a test roll or two, soup in each and print to see what works best for you? You may find you prefer one over the other or they are so close it does not matter.</p>

<p>In dealings with Epson I have been told the freshness dating is to assure quality. "Old Inks" should still work but may have lost a bit with 'how much' being unpredictable. The tech guys told me they should still work OK but 'no guarantees'.<br>

One thing that did surprise me is their stating freezing inks doesn't hurt them. I asked as FedEx leaves packages in the camper of my older pickup when I am not home. At times the daytime temps are 20 below Zero (farenheit) for the high during the day. Doesn't take long for stuff to freeze in those conditions. I bring them in and let acclimatize for a day before using when and if that happens. So far, no troubles at all.</p>

<p>Kodak has screwed things up so badly to this point, why would you think reorganization would change their mindset? All it will do is give them more time to make lousy decisions before going totally out of business.<br>

Very handy for wildlife and sports and analysis of movement.<br>

Is it there and I have just missed it? I am borrowing a friends $600 Sony and using it for this purpose but would rather have all in one package to use my canon lenses.</p>

<p>Check with PPA, Professional Photographers of America (If in the US) as they have packages available for many uses and experience in these matters. Would probably pay you joining just for their insurance coverage for equipment which comes with membership.</p>

<p>That might work for you. You gofrom two shooters to sole operator and it is easy to remember.</p>

<p>Visit a half dozen custom framing shops and get a look at the real world. Higher end framing using conservation standards is not inexpensive. Forget Michaels and the '50%off' places, but go into shops with certified framers and see what is done, what it costs and you will have more information to help make decisions.</p>

<p>Have tried both and bought the LX5. A fine small camera that fits in the shirt pocket. The lens quality is high and the camera is easy to use. Clean and sharp images. I don't have large hands, but not small either. The Canon was just too tiny to feel comfortable with.</p>

<p>I am very interested. Hope it performs as well as the G2's did. Hope the price is around $1000 or less and they should fly out the door. At that price they would give the consumer SLR market a bit of a jolt once people handle the cameras. That is, IF they live up to the hype.<br>

Leica is in trouble as this is what they should have as a complement to the outpriced M9.</p>
