  1. I was thinking of the Tokina as a lens for the D300. It actually came up in a Keh.com coupon email just now (LENS3E 15% off so about $260). Of course, if Sanford really wants a D300+D3500 kit and you can’t buy the D3500 without the lens that doesn’t work on the D300, that does make things more difficult.
  2. You’re right. Did not realize they’d changed the kit lens to P. My bad. But with DSLR stuff being cheap now, can’t you skip over kit zooms and get some better lens used for not much money? Maybe that Tokina 16-50/2.8 that everybody used to be impressed with?
  3. Yes. (Though the AF speed would also depend on the motor in the lens - don’t expect the kit lens to be a speed demon.)
  4. “Too long, didn’t read” - shorthand for “now here’s the quick version”
  5. The TLDR is, all the Nikon DSLRs and the film SLRs that are not older than an F5 are fully G compatible.
  6. Actually my D800 is in the shop right now for an adjustment. It has nasty back focus and the focus system can be recalibrated.
  7. Guys. The OP is correct. This is Arista EDU 100, which is made by Foma: Arista EDU Ultra 100 ISO 35mm x 36 exp. | Freestyle Photographic Supplies. This is Arista Premium 100, which is discontinued: Arista Premium B&W 100 ISO 35mm x 36 exp. (Short-date Special 2/2011) | Freestyle Photographic Supplies - note the Made In USA. At the time the Premium 100 was available, it was widely believed that the film was rebadged Plus-X. I shot dozens of rolls and I have no doubt that this belief was correct.
  8. The CL gear looks great but the lens selection is pretty slim. I think I’d rather be in the Fuji system, where you have a 35mm f/1.4 and a 56mm f/1.2.
  9. If you want to use your older system lenses to shoot digital and have a terrible user experience, you can get a Sony A7 and an adapter for not much more than this costs.
  10. Arista EDU is Foma. Arista Premium is a discontinued label that was sourced from Kodak and the 100 was Plus-X.
  11. I’ve done both. It’s only a 1/3 stop difference.
  12. I don’t see why you’d need to give a maximum print size, unless you want to provide a license with print size restrictions. If somebody wants to print a 6000x4000 at 60x40 inches, that’s their call. If they have access to a printer that large, hopefully they know how to use it. But why on earth would you sell digital downloads on Etsy? There is ridiculously little money in it.
  13. They say that tmax developer is a good one for Kentmere 400...
  14. You might be stuck with live view and manual focus...
  15. Aside from getting it serviced, the only thing I ever found that worked was shooting in live view and using the magnifier to check focus.
  16. They had his email because he gave it to them. Adorama isn’t dumb, they’re not going to violate federal and/or EU law. If you’ve browsed their web site while signed in they’ve given you a cookie and if you’ve consented to marketing email they’ll email you when they see you’ve visited. I’ve had this happen too. The way to stop it, if you want to, is to withdraw consent to marketing emails and/or logout and block cookies. And if you don’t want all those ads, stop using Chrome and Android, and use a different browser with ad blocker. Of course you’re being advertised at - you’ve got a device and software designed to track and log your personal information and make money by showing you ads!
  17. This is pretty common in retail. Sites know who you are because you’ve logged in, you’ve agreed to terms of service that let them email you, and they email about products you’ve viewed. If you don’t like it: Don’t stay logged in in web sites Opt out of marketing emails Use Adblock and Privacy Badger browser plugins
  18. Not sure what the professional version is. AFAIK there’s only one lens called a 35mm f/1.4 AIS. I used to have one. Great lens. But it’s a 1970s design. You have to manually focus and you don’t get the optical corrections that people expect these days. For most DSLR shooters, if your budget is limited, you’re probably best off with the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 (not DX) or the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VR.
  19. Processing is as much a part of the craft of digital photography as darkroom work is part of the craft of B&W printing.
  20. You are telling a concrete wall what, exactly? As far as I can see, this thread has no point at all, except perhaps to annoy Canon customers.
  21. No. I’m not one who’s calling things “redundant” (despite apparently not knowing what that word means). WRT a 1DXiii, I’m sure it’s very nice, and if you are in the market for a 3 pound, $6500 camera it should certainly be on your short list.
  22. A DSLR can’t do 12 FPS unless it’s a D5 or 1DX Mark whatever. My XH1 can, and it’s a $999 camera (extra batteries and grip included)
