  1. Yeah, I don’t know what to say. I’ve had 5 Fuji MILCs, an X100, X10, 20 and 30, 8 lenses, since the XE1 was new, and no problems at all except for a couple of big drops causing physical damage.
  2. You might have to send in the lens for service. This error can be caused by physical damage and that’s a consumer grease lens you have.
  3. So basically, you go to Goodwill and get a $5 Powershot from 20 years ago, and get $100 for it.
  4. I wouldn’t buy a new great market camera in the states. No warranty, and most of the sellers are sketchy. You’re better off with a used camera from a good store that has a 6 month guarantee.
  5. So, gray market cameras. What’s a reliable source you would go to for one of these cheap Sonys?
  6. News sites converting the announcement. I don’t know if it’s in stock anywhere.
  7. Joe, I don’t know where you’re shopping, but in the US the “store I’d actually shop at price” on a new A7Riii is $2500 and the launch price of a Z5 is $1500. The announced UK price on a Z5 is £1,589 with the FTZ, £1,719 with the 24-50 lens. The legit-store price for an A7R iii is £2,199 due to a Sony promotion, usual price is £2,499. I know you like Sony, but let’s get the numbers right at least.
  8. Dick Cheney in 2001: If there is a one percent chance a threat is real, we have to act, even go to war. Donald Trump in 2020: Mumble mumble mumble ... masks? They’re ok, sometimes, probably, if you have to. Why are you asking me? This is China’s fault. A lot of people are saying that this mask makes my hands look big. See, my hands are huge. Why don’t you measure Joe Biden’s hands? Nobody has ever been treated more unfairly than me.
  9. Their latest pro-SLR video made me want to go shoot an SLR. But it didn’t really work because I used a Nikon.
  10. Last year I developed a roll that had been in a camera that long, not a fridge. It required color correction but was otherwise fine.
  11. A Pentax 67 is a very good camera (I used to have an older model) but the tele lenses are really heavy. Even the 300 is a 3 pound lens.
  12. Do you mean Fuji GFX 50R? Great camera. Tons of image quality in a small package. The Hasselblad is similar. But for amateur use, handheld, a high res medium format digital with manual focus lenses doesn’t seem like the best use of resources, especially if you already have an A7Rii. Using it that way you’re not going to get all the detail the camera is capable of and the shooting experience won’t be anything special.
  13. Fuji makes a few sizes. I find the X-T small (though the X-T4 is a bit larger than the 3) but the X-H is a great size. But don’t be fooled by heft. A lot of these mirrorless cameras are small and light but have a tough metal build.
  14. It really depends on your choice of gear. You could stick a giant zoom on a 24x36 camera. OTOH here’s a kit I often use...
  15. Honestly I’d try again to find a working Nikon, assuming you have lenses. You’ve had bad luck like I’ve never seen and it’s not likely to continue. A K-1 is an excellent camera. Rugged, same sensor as a D800, with IS and GPS, and if you’re looking for a DSLR system and have no investment in lenses it might be right for you, but if you have lenders it’s not going to be worth the cost and hassle of switching.
  16. Those displays are factory calibrated but should be regularly checked and profiled. The software has some catching up to do - a bunch of field calibration and profiling features are supposed to be coming in a future OSX release.
  17. The information here is limited but: https://www.freestylephoto.biz/static/pdf/product_pdf/fujifilm/NEOPAN_100_ACROSII_(135)_data_sheet.pdf
  18. MC and MD Rokkors are equally functional on an SRT. All the midrange lenses are good - the 45/50/55/58. I’ve had them all. The 58s are particularly good for shots of people. The 135/2.8 and 100/2.5 are excellent. I don’t know the wides as well so I’ll let others comment. I got by with a 28/2.8 Vivitar for years.
  19. For Mac users, I’ve been using the hackery described here: Camera Hack: Use Your Main Camera as a Webcam Without a Capture Card with a Fuji XH1. I don’t see why it wouldn’t also work with Canons that support tether.
  20. I don’t know about filter nano coating, but Nikon lens nano coating is supposed to be great at reducing reflections, but also soft and easily damaged. So they put it on the interior surfaces that are not meant to be cleaned by the user.
  21. A news reporter would be criticized for writing something that’s made up; a novelist is supposed to write things that are made up. Photography is no different. A photojournalist or somebody else under circumstances where they are supposed to present only truthful images should use minimal editing. An art photographer should edit as much as he thinks helps him get the image he wants.
  22. Well if you’re not going to take our input there’s nothing we can do to save you from Sony menus.
  23. As much as I hate to say this... have you looked at Canon? If you don't want Nikon, and you do want a well designed mirrorless, and it has to be 24x36, Canon would be at the top of my list. If APSC will do, Fuji should be on the short list too.
  24. I’d take a Z over a Sony in a heartbeat. The user interface is just much more relatable for somebody with Nikon experience, and the FTZ adapter beats any Nikon to Sony adapter situation. I have an A7 and I hate it. Hate isn’t strong enough. I loathe it. The menus are impenetrable. It seems like it should be great for old lenses on adapters, but the zoom to focus takes too many button presses and the thick sensor glass makes many lenses crap.

    D810 vs D4

If you have to ask, and you already have the good cameras... why upgrade? A D810 or D4 would hardly give you an advantage over what you can do with a D800 or D500. If there’s not some specific reason for a new camera, save your money. Some day you can put it toward a D850 or Z series.
