  1. The 75mm f2 APO Summicron is a very nice optic. Compact, but dense, and very fast to focus. I've used it quite a lot as part of my primary four lens (21-35-75-135) outfit. At f2-2.8 your rangefinder needs to be aligned properly and the focus throw is so fast you can just miss short or long pretty easily at any aperture setting. I can use it well enough with no focus aid at f5.6 or smaller apertures but the 1.25x or 1.4x rangefinder magnifiers makes focus with 75-90-135mm lenses much more secure at faster apertures. It also doesn't hurt the frames are enlarged with the magnifiers for composition aid.
  2. MP240 and 18mm f3.8 Super Elmar, along the 100+ degree White Rock Trail last weekend.
  3. Food Truck Lane at Klyde Warren Park earlier today, when it was "only" just over 100 degrees, LOL, with the MP240 and 135mm f3.4 APO Telyt-M, at f4. and last Sunday morning just after sunrise, with the same MP240 and a 28mm f2 Summicron-M ASPH.
  4. This is the last version of the Elmarit, from 1990-2008 and the paperwork that came with it included a receipt from a trip to Leica in 2013 where they 6-bit coded it for use on the digital bodies so would have included recalibration for use on the newer bodies. The size/weight/image quality ratio is superb. These were medium distance shots, the first being further away, and I had it one stop down at f4 and the depth of field is still pretty darn narrow. Medium distance-type shots with the 90mm Summicron at f2 or even 2.8 using the rangefinder are challenging but this particular Elmarit is matched really well with my MP240, which just recently came back from DAG for a rangefinder calibration. These are really, really nice lenses. It’s too bad Leica dropped the 90mm Elmarit line when they did but fortunately it did end with this modern version and I’m glad I found the one I did and held out for a while, trying to find one already coded for digital bodies. I really prefer having the lens information included in the EXIF data and not having to remember to manually dial it in and half the time forgetting and winding up with 50 shots using other lenses and the data being wrong.
  5. Two from earlier today. Backlit, with the MP240 and a 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-M. Some park art, with the same setup.
  6. Not too long ago I finally grabbed an Amadeo adapter to use my Carl Zeiss Contax IIa lenses from the mid-1950’s on my M digital bodies. I need to get the 50mm f2 Carl Zeiss Sonnar on the m246 Monochrome and put it in the bag with the MP240 setup and see how well it performs today.
  7. MP240 and Voigtlander 35mm f1.7, caught him fishing under the branches in the morning light. From a little further away and at the dam in the afternoon light, same camera but this time the 135mm f3.4 APO Telyt-M.
  8. With Karim here, with the addition, ANYONE visiting China, North Korea, etc and being detained, should be on their own for being insane enough to even want to go there, and then expect someone else to jump through hoops like a trained pony to get them out.
  9. MP240 and Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 Ultron this past Sunday. 21mm f1.4 Nokton. And earlier today downtown with the 15mm f4.5 Super-Wide Heliar III.
  10. It does not help either that Leica has discontinued the entire aps-c system, from the TL2 to the CL. I’ve owned a CL now for a couple of years and own most of the native lenses. It’s pretty much in line with the original M10 in terms of technology and as long as it continues to function and batteries remain available it’ll be a great camera to use but I’m more than a little disappointed in myself for investing in the system In hind-site. For what I laid out I could have picked up two really nice second-hand M10’s or M10R’s.
  11. Just received my MP240 back from DAG, having the rangefinder adjusted, and have gone out the past couple of days during lunch to stress-test it with the 135mm f3.4 APO, using the 1.25x viewfinder magnifier to assist even more the focus accuracy wide open with this longest lens made for the system.
  12. The 35mm and 135mm lenses were also fitted with yellow filters, and 21mm had an orange filter on, which gave a nice starting point contrast-wise.
  13. Thanks Arthur. The 135mm shot of the crane was at f5.6. Depth of focus is so thin at f3.4 or f4, I do most of my shots with that lens at f5.6 or f8. Processing the raw files in Adobe Camera raw, there’s a gradient tool, with an option of clicking a button and the program can select just the sky. It’s magical how well that works, and I applied exposure, highlights and dehaze sliders to bring the sky to where I wanted, separate of the balance of the image.
  14. From this past Sunday with the M246, this first image with the 21mm f3.4 Super Elmar. 35mm f1.4 FLE. and 135mm f3.4 APO Telyt.
  15. MP246 Monochrome and 21mm f1.4 Nokton. Mid-day, June 30, 2023.
  16. Leica MP240 this morning just after sunrise, and the Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 Ultron, which is a contra-light optical champ.
  17. Could be the cord or, something inside the camera body related to the sync post. As old as those bodies are now, all/any possibility could be the culprit.
  18. I am sorry to hear this Arthur. That’s a tough one to approach and very personal. In your shoes I’d go with your first thought on how his wife would accept it or not based on how well you know her/knew them. She might well not be able to imagine you being there without a camera in-hand.
  19. Sunday morning on the pier, with the M246, 90mm f2 APO Summicron-M and a yellow filter.
  20. MP240 and 28mm f2 Summicron-M ASPH. Monochrome conversion using Adobe Camera raw.
  21. I only need one 28mm lens or, that is, to buy one, one time, not three.
  22. MP240 and 50mm f2 Summicron-M from this afternoon, along White Rock Creek.
