  1. Here's the folder and few of the sample images... https://gmchappell.smugmug.com/Other/Nikon-F2AS-Service-Images/i-6jxHqq
  2. Last year I purchased a black paint '79 serial-numbered Nikon F2AS from Sover Wong, who had completely refurbished the body and meter head, including installation of his new resister ring in the DP12, so it'll go on for years and years. I'm not sure which is silkier in operation, the F2AS or a Leica M4 DAG serviced three years ago. I'll never part with either. I paid Sover for the additional cost of adjusting the DP12 meter reading pattern to semi spot: https://soverf2repair.webs.com/spot_metering He sent me images from inside the body/meter head as he performed the work that I'll place in a web folder and link here later this weekend if you want to take a look at those. 3. That you did try shutter priority (sorry, missed that initially) probably means the issue is in the auto ISO setup, assuming you do have ISO set to auto and also, assuming there really is no electronic/mechanical issue with the camera.
  4. It may be setup to shoot at shutter speeds no faster than 1/Focal length in use. That's an option in the auto ISO setup in any capture mode and is probably built-in to all-auto option. The 500mm maximum focal length could mean you are limited to 1/500 second shutter speed at most. PHD (point here dummy, a term I heard a LONG time ago by the owner of now-closed Woodmere Camera in NY who always had a listing in Shutterbug magazine...LOL) modes place all sorts of restrictions on the user, as the camera assumes you want nothing to do with the settings and will not allow you to intercede until you take the camera out of all-auto where you can use your own preferred settings. Change the exposure mode to either Shutter Priority or Manual, which should allow you to set any shutter speed you want. That'll tell you if the cameras shutter speeds are working properly or not.
  5. D780 and 70-200mm f4G AFS Nikkor.
  6. The Nikon 70-200mm f4 VR is one outstanding lens, both optically and from a carrying/comfortable hand-holding standpoint.
  7. Two bidders with more money than common sense drove the price to over 9 times the estimate, but still only one-fifth the price a prototype Leica M body brought (60 times the estimate!) at the same auction. Nuts.
  8. D780 and 14-24mm f2.8, from this past Saturday.
  9. Please let us know when third-party lenses start really being "re-badged" so they can be avoided, LOL... Lord knows what those would be copied from....
  10. D780 and 70-200mm f4G AFS, at 200mm and f4.
  11. In keeping with the extra-high prices they're charging for the lenses straight up. Everyone buying in right now is underwriting the system development, and likely will be for a while yet.
  12. D780 and 70200mm f2.8E AFS-G Nikkor, at 200mm.. With a new to me (and pretty much like-new with less than 6,900 shutter clicks) D3s in-hand, the original Nikon battery with enough juice left to see the thing is in perfect working order and a pair of new Watson-brand EN-EL4 batteries from B&H on the way, I look forward to a long, fun time of shooting between it, this D780 and Df.
  13. D780 and 105mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor AFS G. Building storm clouds....something not seen around here in months. D780 and 28mm f1.8 AFS G Nikkor, at the museum.
  14. D780 and 14-24mm f2.8, at 20mm.
  15. Looking at the list, a few units (24-70 and 70-200mm f2.8's as two examples) have been replaced with new versions, both of which I have purchased this year. There were four or five 70-300's in production at one time so one or more versions of those going away (how many 70-300's does one brand need?) is no surprise. That "D" series lenses (7 out of the 35) lasted up until the last three years is pretty amazing. Not one of the lenses on that list surprises me all that much. The still-available lineup is extensive and high-quality second-hand, often virtually unused options, are endless. It's the DX line that is really being abandoned big-time, but that title borders more on "looking for attention" to me than passing on some big "scoop"...
  16. D780 and 58mm f1.4G Nikkor.
  17. Definitely pre-war for the Contax II/III models. The post-war West German f3.5 Tessar was a rigid-design, hard to find today because most everyone wanted their Contax with an f2 or f1.5 Sonnar and the post-war f3.5 rigid West German “Opton” or “Carl Zeiss” Tessar may be the sharpest post war lens made for the Contax. Hard to know what’s in store from a lens now 85 years old with no known history other than, shoot it and show us what you get.
  18. D780 and 70-200mm f2.8E Nikkor at 170mm.
  19. A friend mine is shooting an M9 I gave him 2-3 years ago happy as a clam. I figure the chances either my current M262 or M246 bodies giving up the ghost within the next 8-10 years is remote at best and could possibly outlast me. I assume Leica will continue supplying batteries for the M240 family of cameras. With two of my three cells now 4-5 years old I'll be needing to add new units sooner rather than later. Having recently purchased a new Amadeo Contax to Leica adapter, I should soon have some Carl Zeiss 50mm f2 Sonnar image files from both Leicas to post here.
  20. This past week at the currently being restored Cotton Gin factory in Prattville, Alabama, with the M246 Monochrome and 35mm f1.4 Summilux FLE.
  21. Leica CL and 90mm f2 pre-APO Summicron-M.
  22. Lots of way overpriced classic/modern Leica M equipment on eBay, a large portion of which are often far-East sellers; prices with no roots in common sense-territory, but it doesn't seem to matter. They must draw in some poor sap or two with more money than sense, otherwise it'd seem to be financial stupidity to continue listing at over-inflated prices.
  23. Old growth, with a Monochrome M Type 246 and 50mm f2 Summicron-M (V 5).
  24. M246 Monochrome and 28mm f2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH. and 90mm f2 Canadian pre-ASPH Summicrom-M.
  25. M246 Monochrome today, with the 135mm f3.4 APO Telyt-M and B+W Yellow Filter.
