Another image from this series. My goal...get out of my box from

close-up head shots and capture full body and scenery. Honestly, a

difficult task for me. I love the moment that was caught here. It

really does reflect the freedom of being a kid! Comments and

    suggestions welcome!

    Jayme,

OMG...it's SOOOO funny that you did that to this image because I SOOOOO tried to do something like it myself. Seriously, I really DID! I just don't KNOW how! I'm pretty good at PS....I've just never learned HOW to do this. So, how DO you do it?

Comments and suggestions welcome. Using my sb600 remotely on my left

side to provide the fill. Shot in manual iso200/ss125/f5.6

  1. Rachel,

You are right. I should have taken a picture of the pictures on the wall...even just for myself as I try to replicate what the other photographer did! This older style is BRAND NEW to me (see portfolio)! A challenge for sure. I agree that it needs to be deeper and I'll try your suggestion! Thanks.

Okay....I went back and added a layer of "soft light" at 50% it did seem to add depth. What do you think?

Excellent composition, obviously following the rule of thirds. Wonderful dof and backlighting...perfect catch lights. Excellent work!
  2. This client has A LOT of these type of photos in her home. All of

her other photos were taken by a photographer in Chicago years ago.

The photographer shot with film. She told my client that she turned

the print to sepia and then sent to print to a handpainter. I'm

trying to replicate something similar with digital photography. Any

advice on making this better would be greatly appreciated. I feel

like it needs more depth or something but am unsure how to get it.

    Thanks.

I'm still working on getting to know my 50mm 1.8 lens and the

challenges of a set focal length. I love the sharpness of this lens

    though! Comments and suggestions welcome!

this is unreal! I love the little bit of blue in the backdrop bringing out her eyes! Have you played w/ unsharp masks in Photoshop? I just ran a portrait unsharp mask on this and it really helped. Settings under unsharp mask were 75,.2,3

    Outdoor high key

          3

I ended up with an outdoor highkey shot! I'm still struggling with

exposure outdoors where the background is much brighter than the

subject. Matrix metering underexposes the subject, but SPOT metering

on the subject's face, results in a blown background like this!

Behind him was a lake w/ a fountain. Comments and suggestions

    appreciated AS ALWAYS!

Thanks so much Star and Bert! I really love this little guy, but had serious trouble getting him to make eye contact with the camera. I don't usually have that problem, but for some reason he just wouldn't look into the lense. This is about as close as I got!

Trying out my new backdrop....brown fleece from JoAnn's and my new

50mm 1.8 lense in the studio. Let me know what you think! Thanks so

    much!

What a sweet little girl! Is she yours? I love the composition on this one and how the green shirt brings out her green eyes! I played with the image a little bit in photoshop to lighten it a bit...it just seemed a bit underexposed. I did a screen layer and then a color pop. Hope you don't mind....

Great focus on the eyes. Wonderful dof...what apeture did you shoot this at? I'm thinking 2.8 or less! Great job! Is there a little pink on the conversion? I'm seeing some right around her mouth on the RIGHT side of HER lips. Just thought I'd point that out as you may not want it there.
