Here's the image with a soft light layer added at 50%

Rachel,
You are right. I should have taken a picture of the pictures on the wall...even just for myself as I try to replicate what the other photographer did! This older style is BRAND NEW to me (see portfolio)! A challenge for sure. I agree that it needs to be deeper and I'll try your suggestion! Thanks.
Okay....I went back and added a layer of "soft light" at 50% it did seem to add depth. What do you think?

This client has A LOT of these type of photos in her home. All of
her other photos were taken by a photographer in Chicago years ago.
The photographer shot with film. She told my client that she turned
the print to sepia and then sent to print to a handpainter. I'm
trying to replicate something similar with digital photography. Any
advice on making this better would be greatly appreciated. I feel
like it needs more depth or something but am unsure how to get it.
Thanks.

thanks Zach! They used these chairs for their dining room table. I was like, no way...it goes pefectly. It's so nice when props just pop up!

I'm so used to working with kids...does this work for a soon to be
8th grader? I know...she looks much older.

I ended up with an outdoor highkey shot! I'm still struggling with
exposure outdoors where the background is much brighter than the
subject. Matrix metering underexposes the subject, but SPOT metering
on the subject's face, results in a blown background like this!
Behind him was a lake w/ a fountain. Comments and suggestions
appreciated AS ALWAYS!

Thanks Kasey....even my cheapo lense can achieve a little blurred background!

I just loved her expression in this shot. Thought it might make some
of you smile. As always cc is appreciated!

Thanks so much Stephen!

What a sweet little girl! Is she yours? I love the composition on this one and how the green shirt brings out her green eyes! I played with the image a little bit in photoshop to lighten it a bit...it just seemed a bit underexposed. I did a screen layer and then a color pop. Hope you don't mind....

Now that is pretty cool! Unique and original!

Great focus on the eyes. Wonderful dof...what apeture did you shoot this at? I'm thinking 2.8 or less! Great job! Is there a little pink on the conversion? I'm seeing some right around her mouth on the RIGHT side of HER lips. Just thought I'd point that out as you may not want it there.

Another image from this series. My goal...get out of my box from
close-up head shots and capture full body and scenery. Honestly, a
difficult task for me. I love the moment that was caught here. It
really does reflect the freedom of being a kid! Comments and
suggestions welcome!
