Never Say Die

I am asking myself whether this is a window or a mirror. ... and, he looks familiar!

    Sarah and Rita

A triple portrait; you, the loving dad in her eyes... And, her beauty is not that of a surface. Can it be deeper than this? ... My best wishes to you all :)
  6. The human presence... Radiating warmth of the soft feminine smile in a steel & concrete world.

Hello Carlos. I totally agree with the view David expressed so nicely. Still, this image is a proof that certain photos tell more about the onlooker than the image itself. I can imagine people can feel threatened by his (?) look and they can take your hand's gesture as an attempt at self protection... Ambiguity. Isn't that lovely? (It has been ages since I had last paused to comment on a photo of yours; although I had seen most, if not all, of your submissions).

  10. Dear Jack, Thank you very much for your fast, inquisitive & supportive comment. Can I first say that the original title did name the three birches as "sentinels" just like you remarked! Below is a half-hearted attempt at translating the poem which accompanies this image : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ... You may find what you are after Only under full moon. The path starts among rustling leaves just next to the three birches with one thousand eyes... If you are not scared of darkness as much as you did of death and say you will not miss the luxury of light and the taste of deep breathes Hurry up before the trees cover the path. ... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (The above may no longer sound like a poem but I happen to like the original). For the "green" I have no satisfactory answer at the moment. I envisioned (previsualised?) the image as a monochrome from the beginning, that is for certain. The scene was mostly dark green at the time (in a forest, just after sunset)... The dark hole or path contrasting with the three birches were so inviting that I had to stay for a while and shoot while my friends were waiting in the car... I am not sure if it is "too green" from a particular point of view. Still, I have no doubts about the color. Somehow, it had to be green! Dear Gunnar, Thank you very much your comment. I am happy you also see it as "mystical".
  11. The incomplete autopsy shows that the cause of death was overeating of unhealthy food. No further dissection necessary!

    Cornered

    Aptly named and depressingly beautiful.

  14.
Nathan,
As far as I know, spare shutters are scarce and you can only have them repaired / replaced in Japan. I believe, you may have more luck if you have a relative / close friend living in Japan who can deal with the matter as if they were his/her cameras. The German company mentioned above did not reply my repeated messages for a shutter repair/replacement. I will not be surprised if they do not have any spares left...

    John in his livingroom

I have just watched this for minutes... The rather unorthodox placement of the fellow and the photographs... His look... THE LIGHT... And, the title : "Living...". Beauty of the irony.

  17. A lovely dance of diagonals and verticals on top of the heavy, unmoving, all-knowing, dividing, thick white line. It seems so say : "A Somewhere Man Going Nowhere"! And, it means it.
