Another great shot! Good choice of lighting from the side with plenty of detail in the room to add to the effect. I might offset a little more to the right, and go in just a little as there's about 20% of ceiling in the frame with little detail there. This picture works very well for me. Congratulations.

a digital shot of naked woman or nature (100 to 1) gets dozens of chorus voices, and this honest, straight,

   good Photograhy only one?!

wake up.

I have just watched this for minutes...

The rather unorthodox placement of the fellow and the photographs...

His look...

THE LIGHT...

And,

the title :

"Living...".

Beauty of the irony.

There are several things I really like in this photo.  Having John off to one side and having him look to the edge of the frame is somewhat unconventional, but it works well here to add to the mood and setting.  To me, the photo suggests reminiscence and solitude, and perhaps some nostalgia and loneliness.  John appears alone and at the edge of the sofa, as if he's wishing for someone to occupy the remainder.  The photos on the wall might be of relatives and places he has been, and could be things that John is thinking about.

I like how you have put his face, which is brightly lighted, against the very dark doorway.  The contrast draws the eye toward him.  There is a starkness or a spartan quality to his living room, an appearance that is more unfinished than dilapidated, which may be enhanced by your black-and-white presentation.  It makes me wonder how the appearance of the room reflects John's life.  I think that showing the unfinished ceiling adds to the mood, and that cropping it out eliminates some of the homeliness and darkness of the setting.  Plus, cropping it produces too big of an aspect ratio for my eye.

It is interesting that the photo on the wall to the left seems to be of the same room.  A bit of playfulness, maybe, or another thing to be considered in interpreting the photo.
