  1. The seascape here is nicely composed and in perfect focus! The strobe angle from the right side, though, has cast some harsh shadows that contrast a little too much with the lighter areas making some the shot look underexposed and others looking borderline blown out.

    Cheers!

  2. It is sad to see such a majestic animal unceremoniously chained to a wall like that!  The textures and details are nice, but I would have changed around the composition for a greater emotional effect.  Right now it is an excellent shot of an elephants behind.  Maybe next time focus on the chain around the rear leg.

I like how you've used the depth of field to isolate the mushroom and surrounding grass.  The overall feel of the image is about right, about the only thing I would change is to get in a little tighter around your subject.  Cool shot!

  3. The beams add a sense of the surreal to the scene while the extra contrast in the trees at right adds a sense of depth.  The only thing I don't like is the road and I can't quite put my finger on why.  Well done!

I like this composition and your choice of colors.  My only complaints are that the bubbles are slightly out of focus and there is not title or caption explaining what I'm seeing.  Captions are often overlooked and more important than a lot of people realize.  Kudos!

...or at least I think that's the effect you were going for.  Interesting subject, good angle, only I would have gotten in a little closer.  The space around your fungi is unnecessary but otherwise, you got a reaction out of me!  Good work!

  4. I completely agree that the slaughter of these majestic creatures is a tragic way to boost one's manhood!  However, as a group, I am also reminded that hunters are some of the most fervent conservationists around.  It seems like an oxymoron, but their determination for a just cause keeps people like me off their back.  I guess someone has to keep them in check, thanks for caring!

I like the way this shot is divided into two pictures.  On the bottom is a white building with interesting window arrangements.  The top is a colorful cloud arrangement with church towers in the foreground.  That much I really like.  Now go into Photoshop and level out the top of that building because it is making me uncomfortable!

    Chameleon

The details in the chameleon's scales are exquisite!  I am definitely a fan of this capture.  If anything, I would have closed the aperture just a bit to get the top of the head in better focus and maybe touched the saturation back a skootch, but overall this is incredible!

    Bug Overboard

A bug fell in a puddle and I would have never thought to grab a picture of it.  The level of creativity required to see this as art is simply beyond me.  Thanks for sharing such a neat capture!

I disagree that the photographer was dealt a bad situation here since he was able to create a rather eerie atmosphere using the well-played water effect.  What I think is missing is a defined subject.  The water is cool, but my eyes are scanning the image for want of something to focus on.

    Dolphin

Compositionally, I like that the dolphin is diagonal through the frame and not just vertical which is how everyone else takes pictures from the bow of a boat.  Also, it's nice to see the side of the dolphin and not just the dorsum.  The down points?  the animal's head is hidden by the water and it looks like the focus could be sharper, but overall, nice capture!

I thought this was a spectacular landscape shot with an enthralling mix of clouds, shoreline, water, and mountains.  Unfortunately, the ropes in the middle ruin the shot for me by getting in the way of what my eyes naturally want to see.

I usually try to use critiques to offer constructive criticisms, but on this shot I have none.  Excellent color, eye-grabbing composition, kudos!

I love the juxtaposition between the fishing boat (man) and the dolphin (nature).  Next time try positioning your boat such that the dolphin is between you and the fishing boat.  That way you can be closer to the dolphin while maintaining the fishing boat in the shot so the viewer doesn't have to search so much for the subject.

  5. The colors and details are fantastic!  You obviously mastered this shot better than I could have, but just a suggestion, if you are going to go through the trouble of capturing most of the animal, don't clip any off like on the right side here.  Don't get me wrong, though, this is spectacular as is.

    French Grunts

The focus is spot on, the details in the fish are perfect, and they weren't over processed.  For an identification shot, this is perfect!  However, as art the composition is kind of sterile.  Had you zoomed out to capture the school or waiting a tick for the fish to be in a more intriguing position, it would have gotten a much higher rating.
