I'm still playing with my new underwater camera, so any thoughts you have
are greatly appreciated.

This anemone was captured moments after my buddy kicked up some
sand. He was narced and I kind of liked the effect, so he was forgiven, but
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the image.

Alan-
The focus is spot on revealing wonderful details in the trumpetfish's head! You were obviously playing in some gorgeous reefs! I would change two aspects. First the flash is reflecting a little strong off of the fish blowing out some of the lighter areas. Second, I would have shot at more of an upward angle to contrast the fish against a blue or cleaner background. Otherwise, kudos on presenting such a spectacular film image in a digital age!

Hi Grigorly
I really like the degree of creativity that went into this interesting composition. Unfortunately, you placed it in the "nature" rankings when it is clearly not a depiction of nature. Maybe it is an issue of pedantics, but if you ever enter competitions, pay close attention to the categories.

I know it is in vogue to put borders around your photos, but for me it takes away from the image, especially when it is a really thick one. A well-shot image should speak for itself and is best viewed as large as possible. The border here takes up so much of the available space that it significantly reduces the picture.

Every once in a while, while strolling through nature, you find a scene
composed otherwise normal critters assembled in the most incredible way.

Hi Alan-
That's the kind of advice I was looking for! I agree 100% with your comments and honestly would not have thought to add a light behind the diver to give him more form as well. To add, I thought there was a little too much backscatter in the diver's light-beam. Thank you for your comments.

Another nice shot, although I would have preferred the fish to be facing the camera.

While I'm not familiar with this species of parrot, its colors are splendid! Parrots and their cousins the wrasses can be tough to photograph in general. Congrats on such a crisp shot of one.

This little guy came up to investigate my focus light one night.

My buddy investigating a partridge tun. I don't often shoot people
underwater, so your advice would be appreciated.

A friend takes the plunge on a natural waterslide we found while hiking
many miles back into the forest.

A group of snappers (Lutjanus kasmira) gather on the wreck of the Mahi.

On a recent excursion, I was lucky enough to encounter this very curious
oceanic white tip shark. Enjoy.

A magnificent storm moved over Oahu on Monday that caused power
outages across the island. Two waterspouts danced offshore before
ushering in a magnificent light show.

Hi Jeff!
We were out at Pai Olu Olu Point early one day when these jacks came in and swarmed us.

I found this guy just before ascending on Good Friday. (S)he was
extraordinarily patient with me. The octopus and I would both love to hear
your comments.

I came across this turtle just before ascending the mooring of the YO-257
on Oahu. I welcome your comments.

It was honestly the best I could do considering how much time I had (not much) and how far away they were. We were freediving in blue water outside of Haleiwa at the time.

To say I was lucky to see these underwater is an understatement. The
encounter was over so fast I only managed a couple of shots to share.
Enjoy.

Gorgeous little thing, great details!
