    The Jagged Edge

Thanks Chuck. I glad you do know because it's almost impossible to get a decent exposure in these conditions...along with the constant haze and mist, but of course it's paradise and you can't beat the scenery. I'll have to try to get up with you the next time I come out there.

This is excellent. Very well lighted, the DOF is very good, white balance is a bit warm but I think it works well. Her expression is great too. Overall, a superb shot.

    Welcome.

Hey but your frame matches her outfit and that's what really counts. Who cares about image quality, sharpness, and a good background, when you have a turquiose frame.
  1. If you could mix the two images together you might have a winner here Michael. This one has some black splotches in the sky that really bring it down, and the other one...well the sky is a bit too blue. Love the dynamic range though.

We made it up here last week. Of course it was in the middle of the day and we didn't get good light like you have here. Love how the waves are captured here. Good dynamic range too. Is this one exposure?

Maxym, the technique really has nothing to do with saturation. The technique is used to achieve dynamic range (to be able to get detail in the lights and darks) There are other ways to achieve this...like using a grad nd filter. The difference between lights and darks were too extreme in this situation even to use a gnd filter though.

Thanks everyone who commented. This was one of the most difficult scenes to capture. The thick haze and mist was almost impossible to deal with and the polarity of lights and darks were extreme. A 3 stop gnd filter didn't even help so I went with 3 exposures and blended them.

Hey Chuck. I was out in Kauai and Oahu the last 2 weeks. I got to the Da Hui surf contest right when it was over but still got some decent surf shots. Did you get any shots of the competition?
  2. Hey Tony, I was browsing through your portfolio and was quite impressed with your body of work. I'm sorry that I can't say the same for this image. The horizon seems a bit tilted, really no interesting foreground and I think the biggest flaw is the over the top colors. I tend to be heavy handed on saturation at times too, but this goes beyond believeable.
