will king 0 Posted January 22, 2008 Hey Mike, to be honest with you, I'm not as found with this one as I am with the rest of your work. The rocks lead my eye to the horizon only to be let down with a bright, almost blown out sky. Also the tire tracks are a bit disturbing. Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted January 22, 2008 It is a beautiful, contemplative image. I think you need to look at this one for a while to be drawn in. There is just something about 4x5 film. The image has a wonderful subtle composition and feeling to it. My only minor complaint is that the horizon is slightly rotated. It is a wonderful image. Nicely done. Dan Link to comment
stuart_williams 0 Posted January 22, 2008 tyre tracks? i cannot see any ... but i can see patterns in the sand. great, low toned image. Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted January 22, 2008 Thanks Will, Dan and Stuart for your thoughts on this one. Will, there aren't any tire tracks here. It wouldn't be possible to get a car anywhere near here :-) Not quite sure what part of the image you're referring to actually as the blacker toned sand is obviously alluvial in nature. The high key tone is deliberate to create a light and airy feel but there is still detail there. I guess not to everyone's taste. Dan, thanks for taking the time to contemplate. This, and many others I've taken recently, are not for the masses and would certainly never rate highly with PN viewers. There is no "wow" factor due to over saturated colour or punchy compositions, no oversharpening and no digital jiggery pokery. It is simply designed to portray the true essence of the place, nothing more, or less. Usually, that isn't enough for anything but the most astute observer, so thanks. BTW, the horizon is dead straight :-) Stuart, thanks again. Mike Link to comment
will king 0 Posted January 23, 2008 Aplogies Mike for the ignorant "tire" comment. I guess if they were tire marks, there would be some indentions in the sand too. ;) Link to comment
rana1 0 Posted February 13, 2008 The colours and tones are fantastic and the composition has our eyes hopping from rock to rock...IMHO the dark marks add texture to the foreground, almost like a canvas...really beautiful... Link to comment
