  1. Nik Collection from google times is the thing to look from old software sources. When used in standalone mode Color Efex Pro fits the description. If not prepared to purchase DXO Photo Lab, the older Optics Pro 10 and 11 also have multiple presets option.
  2. It is not there. Using Df + 35mm Pre-Ai lens. When pressing dof preview while metering, exposure reading does not change, AE-L appears on bottom of viewfinder. Pressing AE-L button does not release locked exposure value, menu items on AE-L button behavior do not support idea of stopped down metering.
  3. I remember experimenting with user setting memory banks in 2004 or 2005, but since then I have been happy with just one memory bank per camera. Later cameras have recent settings function that I find very usefull.
  4. If You want to embrace what is Velvia in digital domain, why not to look for Fujifilm X-T100 plus 14mmF2.8 R. There is all that jazz in marketing, but there often is little bit of truth in every marketing phrase.
  5. About in-game enhancements: Nikon D1X had buffer memory upgrade available in early 2000's. I did not have D1X but D1H, so that was not for me.
  6. I keep around multiple programs, but most often used are two lines: 1. Windows Explorer plus Nikon Capture NX-D to convert raw files to sRGB jpeg for sharing, I assume this is like Nikon would want it to be. 2. Dolphin plus DCRaw to convert raw with fixed whitelevel for home inkjet printing in Nikon ViewNX2. Sometimes this gives more natural tones.
  7. In my experience a SB-800 can deliver 3 well exposed images into ISO 400 body in range of 3-5 meters and if pushed further ISO needs to be raised. Jochen is onto something. It could be some sort of well crafted load balancing circuit that spreads load to multiple flashes equipped with external pattery pack. In standard body + three SB-800 flashes this is no can do.
  8. Sending of information about computer and nikon software use can be disabled also in software installation, once setup asks whether user wants to share data.
  9. Updated this morning and antivirus did not nag on this install like it did last time. Things seem to be working. The phone home feature that came with last update is still there.

    D850 vs Z7

I must be doing something wrong, I have been shooting since mid nineties and have not yet scanned more than 110 rolls of film ;)
  11. I assume that operating system is Windows 10. Check if Photo gallery tool is to Your liking. The 1TB hard drive is likely named D:. You could create a folder to it like Pictures_2 onto it and right click folder and select Include in library > Pictures It is then possible to manouver files and folders, from memory card to SSD, from SSD to spinning drive and backwards as needed. Note that photo app includes some image enhancement technology and is not suited for image quality evaluation purpose. File read and write speeds are dependent on source drive, otherwise it is sensible to keep some folder on SSD as scatch and other operations will be SSD speed.
  12. Modern Nikon picture controls have this thing called Mid-range sharpening, maybe it is maxed either in body or in Lightroom, and is producing strangeness in out of focus area. If it is in Lightroom, look to reduce this effect by lowering effect amount and increasing radius. Cannot see anything strange in full size image though.
  13. The topic has not yet been very popular. I do not have experience with epson scanners, but I have Canonscan 9000 mk II that is much more affordable and makes reasonable output from medium format negatives. 35mm is not so hot but since canon has ir dust removal I often save my dust removal efforts with it. Epson 850 is surely good option. Long time ago I looked for Braun 120 scanner and that was bit more than 1000 dollars.
  14. I have not yet been in actual Spain, but isle of Gran Canaria. I carried aps-c body, 28mm f/2.8, two batteries and charger. It was rather nice and fit carry-on luggage. Since then I have accquired better smart phone, maybe I will leave dedicated camera home on next visit.
  15. I do not have experience with latest 7200rpm drives, but userbenchmarks suggests that 7200 is 5 to15 percent faster than 5400.
  16. Back in 2016 when was last time I build computer, I went with sata SSD for operating system and files under work and 5400rpm spining drive for archive. My logic for 5400rpm drive was lower power consumption, lower heat buildup and longer operating life than 7200rpm drives. You will want those external drives either way as hard drives are not everlasting.
  17. I looked into df menus, enabled raw + jpeg and created two folders for saving but could not summon separate saving folders option for raw and jpeg.
  18. I have tried Sandisk Rescuepro and Photorec with formatted memory cards. IIRC success rate were not near 100% with either of programs.
  19. My copy is near but under serial number million. Got it used and it has not yet developed stiff zoom function or it was fixed by the seller. The lens is heavy and I have not yet used it more than maybe three events. Looking forward to another serious event or trading back to 28-100mm nikon.
  20. Mathew, You got unreal nice bargain with N65, back in in 2002 I bought one F65 new from New York Camera Germany, and later again I got nice deal for used one here in Finland. The current F65 seems to strugle with frame 10 release, but is otherwise operational.
  21. I have good memories from 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-S DX nikkor. It is older design than all the 18-55mms, but still digi-digi-age.
  22. I think he meant would. 24-70mm f/2.8G @24mm is not much worse or much better than 24mm f/2.8D. The prime has slightly wider image when focused to 3 metres.
  23. CF cards usually work. Card error is very rare occasion, but it happens sometimes. I have met corrupted files with D70 and contact pin error with D1H. IIRC corrupted card worked again after reformat and card with contact pin error worked again after re-inserting. Some cheap micro-SD cards have failed permanently, but these are relatively inexpensive to replace.
  24. I am not familiar with Topaz software, but usually imaging aplications are more dependent of single thread performance than number of cores. In best scenario Topaz could utilize all cores. Building a PC these days often does not bring much savings, but atleast components are new and usually standard format and easily replaceable. The computer behind link is rather heavy duty, to build better, one could choose amd ryzen 2700 or similar. Home build PC would have much higher price, but might consume less electricity, if power is expensive, this might come into play. I would like to mention SSD disks, they move image processing bottleneck to processor, while with spinning sata drives bottleneck is in disks.
