She does appear a bit lean. Perhaps that's healthy.
How could you tell where she was from?
-
The cold winds never blew it over. It never melted in the heat of
summer. No one sneaked a bite. But this week it was dispatched to a
community's memory.

This is a picture that only has value, if any, because of its subject. My mother use to say that people wouldn't pay a nickel to see an ant eat a bale of hay. I sometimes feel that subject matter is the least important element of contemporary photography.
I agree fully with your assessment of this situation. I too wondered what would motivate people to have 16 kids. Why do that? But as I looked closely at each of them, they all look happy and healthy. And you are right - a family where there is only one or two kids is no assurance of happiness nor health.
-
There have been no multiple births nor adoptions.
Someone told me that Groucho Marx was interviewing the father of a
very large family. He asked the man why he had fathered so many
children, to which the father replied "Because I love my wife." Then
Groucho said "Well, I love my cigar. But I take it out now and then."

They both seem to be in the same mood. Marvelous. I hope your camera survived.

Bill, I might be inclined to burn the guy in the background. The light pulls my eye toward him.. But the capture of the man in the foreground is marvelous.

You've got a healthy attitude. I should have adopted it a long time ago. I do think we need a sense of responsibility - to ourselves and others. But we don't need the noose hanging over our heads.
-
Yeah. I've carried a lifetime of it being my fault. It isn't - yours or mine.
-
It was his life's work.
The Museum of Appalachia has a collection.

Hi Flo,
Nope, it's digital - Nikon d70.
-
Very nicely captured real image.
-
This is one I wish I could view larger. Emotive capture, and skillfully done.
-
I'm pleased that she intrigues you. To answer your question, I don't know. She's a complex woman who isn't always easy to read.
-
Thanks. I'm always very grateful that you take the time to look at my pictures.
-
Say anything you like. I'll appreciate it.
-
That explains the hat.
-
I really like the spontaneous joy of this. I need to keep it to look at on 'down' days.
-
What has happened here?
-
She looks like she takes life and makes it beautiful. I like her and your picture of her.
-
You've captured beautifully that moment when the line goes taut, much like catching a fish. I like the dirt and dust, and the terrain of the background. Very nice.
-
You certainly caught this at the 'decisive moment'. Marvelous. And I love the colors and the light.

Your comment could be turned and focused right on you. The fingerprints of humanity, in all our grace and disgrace, are all over your pictures.

Thank you Pep and Mary. It appears you two are in the minority on this.
