  1. Don't go out and buy a Hoodman so fast for your camera. The MAC show took place today in NYC and guess who was there? Hoodman! I own an S2 and told the reps, one who I belive was the owner, that the Hoodman's fit on the S2 was lousy. He listened with "ears wide open" and asked my opinion on what should be done. As he was jotting notes, he told me Hoodman was developing a new version for the S2 and that the old one was developed for the S1. He said he will send me a free one once it is out on the market. He valued my opinion and gave me another one for free. So hold off for the Hoodman until they make one spoecifically for the S2 or you will be as "satisified" as I was.
  2. A few months ago I went in with a cooy of an add off of the web site. It was for a black Contax G2, complete with 3 lens. The price was way below what everyone else wanted. The black camera was gone and the guy behind the counter was telling me how Contax sucked. He started the Leica vs Contax thing. Well, this was either bait and switch. Or he legitemately did run out of the balck G2 and hated loosing a sale. I wanted the black G2.........I walked. I found the camera down in Photogizzmo used for $1100 less than brand new. No complaints here about the camera. Plenty about these goniffs!
  3. I was in this situation and sbose the S2. The D100 was not equiped with a PC terminal. The extra software to operate the D100 comes as an option item where as teh S2 gives it to you at the inital purchase.I do not mean "give" as in free. With the S2, you get everything you need at one shot. I'm not knocking the D100 becasue I'm a Nikon guy. DON'T GET BETWEEN ME AND MY F100. But the biggest difference between the two..........in my opinion..........is the speed. I would not shoot a sporting event to easily with the S2. You can't beat the film system for that. The S2 is a great camera and so is the D100.
  4. I myself have purchased used equipment there. I posted this thread to see what others have to say about the place.

Recently, I picked up a used black Contax G2 qith the TLA200 and 35-70 Vario Sonnar lens for $1100 les than what B&H wanted for it brand new. Lou did not have th owners manual and at first I though something was wrong with the focusing system..........you can tell this is my first experiences with the G2, correct?..........but anyhow, once I recieved the manual, all of my questions were answered. The camera was in brand new condition, minus the boxes and manual.

My previous purchase of a RZ made me a second customer.

  5. I've had my black G2 for almost two months now. It's a great camera but I noticed that the black chips off prety easily. Plus, I see all the smudge marks all over it. Contax should have made the black body with a better finish. Moot issue? Of course! According to the boys in Kyocera, the black will never be seen again. I guess it didn't meet their expectations.
  6. Camera's become obsolete faster than tripods do. Get yourself a good one and not a cheap piece of crap. My Magnum XL from Sanford and Davis cost me a C note. It can hold my RZ with no problem at all. That'sthe cheapest I would go.
  7. Do I still have TTL flash control if I use the IR command feature of

my SB50DX flash to wirelessly trigger two SB80DX's? I asked Nikon

this question and they kayfabed me on the answer. The guy didn't know

for sure so he danced around with the answer. I just left it at that

and decided to search for my answer in other venues.

  8. Cambridge is still around on W.17th Street. I think they have been there since 1963. Most of there stuff is old, brittle and broken. How they stay in business, I have not a clue. They do have a web site, but they never answer emails about product inquires. And they also advertise products that they haven't had in stock since Jimmy Carter was president. Yet, if you call and ask, "Of course we have it." Or,"You better come in. Our computer is down and I think we only have one left." Pure kayfabe! Go there if you like playing "Bait and Switch"
  9. Andrew:

Sometimes that is exactly what happens and sometimes I am too close to a subject and it will fire in SAF if I hold the button in. Is the AF button an over ride switch? I called Contax and also talked to a few other peole who own this camera. They say that the active/passive AF is not a perfect system and be fooled a lot easier than my Nikon. I can't wait to get this owners manual so I can read what Contax says about this. Besides this, this is a great camera.

  10. I'm waiting for an owners manual to come in the mail. But I'm looking

for an answer now. Why will my G2 fire unfocused in SAF when I push

down the AF button on the back of the camera and then hit the shutter

button? I always thought SAF was a priority mode that only allowed

and exposure when the camera was in focus.

  11. I just purchased an SB 80 DX. I places a metal hot shoe adapter on it

that will allow me to use it on a 1/4-20 stud in wireless TTL mode.

The flash will not go into this mode because the adapter is made out

of metal and therefore is conductiong juice into the shoe terminals.

Two questions: Does anyone make a plastic adapter for this? How does

Nikon expect you to mount this flash so this will not happen?

  12. I was just on the phone with Kodak and asked them the same thing. According to the rep, X-Tol will give you a finer grain at the expense of shadow detail. T-Max will not give as fine a grain as X-Tol but will give you more info in the shadows. So the choice is yours. I just shot some stuff in low light. So I'll use the T-Max for my processing because I'm looking for detail.
