  1. after I looked at the comparison between the S2 and The D100. I already owned Nikkor lenses. So the Sigma or anythng else was out to he question. Besides, the Sigma was only 3 megapixels. So it was automatically out.

What really helped me to make up my mind was the flash. the Fuji S2 has a PC connection. The D100 does not. The Fuji S2 can use non DX flashes because the Fuji Super CCD is not covered with an anti alias filter. The Sony chip inside the Nikon is, giving it trouble with non DX flashes.

  2. Have you ever seen Nikon's video example of how to set up a still life? They use a vase with flowers. Then they place each SB at a 45 degree angle form the vases to the left and theright if the camera. The F100 has the SB50 in it with the IR filter. The SB80's have softboxes over them. The pictures keep coming up over exposed. And no matter how I place the stobes with soft boxes, the shadows are still hard.
  3. I'm wondering about that. I duplicated the setup that Nikon shows in

some of their literature and the results were horrible. I used 2

SB80DX's, an SB50 as IR trigger along ith small softe boxes over the

80's. No way in hell did I get the same results. Thecamera was the

F100. They try to make the conumer believe the system is fool proof.

  4. Unlike the D100 or other Nikon digitals, the Fuji S2 does not rewuire the use of a DX flash. The Fuji Super CCD does not have filter sittting in front of the CCD likethe Soney/Nikon chip does. My Fuji S2 works fine with my SB 28. This feature was one of the major reasons why I went with Fuji instead of Nikon.

The only camera's I have everr seen that mention the use of a Metz are medium formats. Would Nikon ever recommendthe use of someone elses flash over there own?

  5. I believe it! I know Hassey has a fantastic rep. But I never liked the format. I purchased a Mamiya RZ because I do not like a square negative. Sometimes I wish my RZ were the size of the Hassey.

    Feel free to vent!

  6. I can't knock either camera. But the RB is totally mechanical which does have it's advantages.

I myself have the RZ because I got a great deal. I only have three lenses. But they cover all the angles I shoot at. 50mm, 110,, and 180mm.

I know this can be a hard decision to make. But the RZ is a more fail safe. Unless of course, the battery goes dead.

  7. I was tempted to go with a Kiev as well. The prices were great. I myself am of Ukrainian heritage. I hang out quite often in a Ukrainian neighborhood. I aske one of the locals from Euarope about this camera. He didn't knock it at all. But he said that in the old country, a Hassy or Mamiya was out of reach. In the USA, he shoots with the Hassy. The reason being has to do with preventice maintanance and repair. He claims it's too difficult in this country to get one fixed properly.
  8. I own the S2. I've seen these camera'a advertised for dirt cheap money. Once you go to the store, the software, owners manual, body cap, A/C adapter, etc, will all jack the price up to what it should cost.

I didn't purchase my S2 on line at all. That's way too much cash to take a chance on. I got mine at Focus Camera in Brooklyn. They had the best price. I would recomend them.

  9. I was in the area again. I asked someone who works in the darkroom about Cambridge. They said that Cambridge is out of business becasue of legal issues. The store is for rent. Maybe they will incorporate under a new name. Who knows? But if I walk into a new store and see the same faces and junk, I'll walk.
  10. "In other words, Nikon fixed it so you'd have to buy a new flash if you want all of the features. It's the same game they used with the N80, making non-cpu'd lenses useless on that body...and the new line of "G" lenses, where older bodies are now obselete."<br>

<b> Now that's funny that you mention that! I was sitting here thinking the same thing. I did my homework in researching the S2 vs the D100. I love the S2. The Nikon rep didn't have anything bad to say about the S2 at all. Usually, the Nikon reps tell you they have superior there stuff is to the other guys. My flash pictures with the S2/Sb28 combo are fine. The rep wanted to know if I had to dial in any comp. I replied "no". I could tell by the look on his face that in this department, Nikon could not outdo Fuji. One of the reasons why I went with the Fuji over the Nikon is becasue ofthe proprietory chip. I would think that if they make film, that there chip would be top notch too. Not tlike the SONY (Or so I'm told) chip found in all the other guys camera's.</b>
