  1. Don't expect miracles from the Fuji S2. It's not a bad camera at all. But the only thing it has on the F100 is "instant gratification" Forget about using it for fast moving objects..............you'll be back to your F100 when you find out why. One other thing............the Fuji S2 Hyper Activity Software along with the Firewire concetion is not guaranteed to work with PC's. I own three of them.........two are brand new. The IEEE1394 connection will not work with any of them. Yet, when I hook itup to a MAC, it's fine.
  2. I held and shot one in NYC's PHOTOEXPO. It's a little bit more solid than the S2 and the dynamic range is broader. Would I buy one? Well, my S2 strted giving me trouble after a year of use. Fujio says it's my computer and HP says its my camera. The support team at Fuji isn't anything to talk about. You get a guy on the phone who's job is to get rid of you.
  3. From what I understand, the new D2X is blazing fast. I currently own the Fuji S2. I'd be weary of another Fuji SLR becasue I have a reoccuring problem with the Firewire Port.

A salesman in NYC told me that the Nikon D1X and the D1H's are all solid cameras. Very few comebacks compared to Canon, Fuji, etc.

Next time around, I think I'm going that way.

  4. I have the Fuji S2 for the last 18 months. Overall, I can't complain. The only gripe I really have about the camera is the IEEE 1394 port. It seems that the connection only workd when it wants to. Fuji, HP and Gateway can't explain to me why this is so. Another source told me to go get a Mac.

The other day I was at PhotoExpo in NYC. One ofthe reps gave me his email and told me to contact him and we would meet in Manhattan. He's willing to connect my S2 to his laptop top see what happens. He owns an S2 and has no trouble at all with it. When I purchase something.........especially for 2G, I want all features to work even If they are seldom used. My dad was a pilot in WW2. He never used his parachute..........get the idea?

As far as the camera itself is concerned...........I purchased the S2 because of the PC synch and becasue of its TTL falsh system. The S2 was the only digital SLR at the time that could work with a dedicated Nikon flash system that was not DX coded. I didn't want to go out and get all new flashes. Plus it was the only camera in its price range with the PC synch as well.

If you were atthe show the other day, you would see the new S3. The name of the game is sales and Fuji was working hard to show you why you would want an S3 over an S2. They were demonstrating how the dynamic range of the S3 is better than the S2. Examples were shown of wedding dresses with more detail taken with an S3 than with an S2. The S3 will not burn the highlights out the way an S2 will...........so they say. Besides that, the S3 has a rubberized grip like an F100 and dual shutter releases. The S3 is a great looking camera but I myseld would wait to see what kinks lie ahead for Fuji to fix. The main circuit board of my S2 has been replaced twice.

  5. Keep in mind that most cameras other than SLR will have a limited f stop range Someo nly stop down to F /8 or 11. Secondly, if the camera has a hot shoe, you can buy a PC adaper to put on it for a synch terminal. One other thing..........I had the Nikon 5000 and returned it becasue there was no way to turn the built in flash off when the hot shoe was being used. This might apply to a lot of different brands.
  6. Well, I hope Fuji had straightend out the Circuit Board problem. I'm on my third one. They had a ton of them come back for repair. As far as 3G goes............I'd rather get a Nikon. The Fuji just isn't built as ruggedly as a Nikon of similiar price. The only reason why I went with the S2 from the get go is because of the flash capabilites. The S2 can use any Nikon flash or Metz dedicated unit. I took this photo with the S2 and a Metz 45 TTL series. No comp was required.
  7. Right now my Fuji S2 is sitting in Fuji's Edison NJ repair shop. They can't figure out why my camera will not download through the IEEE 1394. The camera's out of commision for two weeks now andI'm back to using my F5 and F100. This could be a good experience becasue it awakened me to how I got wrapped up into this digital wave and forgot how nice my film camera's produce. All it took was one roll to show me that digital comes no where near digital at all for final output.
