365 Day Thread for 2023

Recommended Posts

How does one take a long exposure during the day on Panatomic-X?  Use an R72 filter of course.  The R72, although it is rated to go up to 720nm, enough red gets though to expose film.  Note that the stop sign is washed out even though it is red.  I made this image over a decade ago, which is about the time I cut down the magnolia tree at far left.  Camera was SRT with 28mm Celtic lens and R72.  Exposure between 5 and 10 minutes, IIRC.

This image to make up for 20th.

For the 21st.

Howdy folks. Been a while since I shot any film, but vintage Moto season has begun. I took a couple cameras out Sunday to our local drag strip and shot a few rolls.

My gifted Praktica LTL conked out on me at the end of the season last year- a friend who has a film camera shop loaned me another, this one a Super TL2, with an f1.8 50mm Pentacon lens.

The film used here is another shift for me- it’s the new-ish Cinestill 400D. I like the way it renders color but I see now there’s an orange-y flare on the fender trim! I have a few rolls of this stock so I’ll shoot it some more and see how I like it when all is said and done.

April 22

Hey so I’m also shooting another new film- Kiki Pan 320. It’s an available in the US  exclusively through my friends shop, Retro Photo Reading (in Pennsylvania). Not certain if it’s brand new from scratch- something I read online said it’s designed in Germany and made in England? But the guy putting it together is Japanese! So whatever?

Anyway it’s contrasty and kinda cool looking- but some of the deep shadows become a big mass of blackness… which could likely be overcome with some work?

Camera was the Voigtlander R3m with the 40mm Nokton Classic MC lens.

Cheers!

After seeing some results of photographed film I decided to construct my own copy stand and illuminated the negatives with a small light box. My old Oly EM5 II has a pixel shift high rez mode that delivers near 40mp.  I can scan 35mm up to 4x5 using this rig. My take is that it out performs my scanners and simplifies the process.
Side note…..Delta 100 is fast becoming my favorite film for both scanning and traditional enlarging. Amazing combination of fine grain, tonality and sharpness. 35mm here.
