ShunCheung
Check this nikon-image page, in Japanese: Df-概要 | 一眼レフカメラ | ニコンイメージング The Df is listed as 旧製品, an "old product," which means it is officially discontinued. However, this list of discontinued DSLRs does not yet include the Df, but the D5, D750, D600 and D610 are listed as discontinued: 一眼レフカメラ製品一覧 (旧製品) | 一眼レフカメラ | ニコンイメージング Edited December 2, 2020 by ShunCheung
ShunCheung
I assume it means Nikon is no longer manufacturing the Df, but some new stock may still be available at certain camera stores. If you want a new one, I would get it very soon. Otherwise, I am sure refurb and used ones will continue to be available for a long time.
hjoseph7
Some say the cell phone is really eating away into Nikon's profits. Sort of like what digital did to the film industry. I just hope that doesn't happen because it would be really sad.

mike_halliwell
There seems to be something slightly (!) incongruous with someone owning a Nikon Df, an acknowledged retro throwback... ..... and the latest smartphone, something which it seems, to some, you MUST change ever year to get the latest one. That's not a Nikon Df's target audience.
ben_hutcherson
I finally broke down and bought one in maybe September of 2019 after threatening to for a while. It's not my most-used camera, but it's still a frequently used one. For one thing, it's kind of perfect for a lot of situations. I take well to the dials, but the redundancy between setting some things with the "real" dials and the hold and spin dials, plus the small and hard front command dial, is annoying. I also don't know why Nikon didn't put a lock on the AI tab like...every other flip up AI tab camera they've ever made... I find the 10 non-CPU lens bank a bit limiting to be honest, especially on this camera. I don't ever carry that many prime lenses, but it means I sometimes have to sit down and reprogram before a trip out. I've said many times that I think NIkon regressed a bit from how these were set on the D2/D200, but that's neither here nor there. I love mine. Not only is it great with MF lenses, but it's also small and lightweight. I've been known to toss a small, light lens like a 35mm f/2D on it and spend an entire vacation with nothing but that on it. The good insanely high ISO means I don't feel like I have to go nuts with a fast prime. I would have loved a tweaked one-say with some quirks smoothed out and maybe updated with the 20mp D5 sensor(although the D4 sensor is no slouch). I figured that was a long shot. I'm sorry to see it gone, but at the same time it was always a niche product and I suspect everyone who wants one already has it.
Nick D.
I agree, the camera is huge and expen$ive . The form factor sort of reminds me of the 1969 Chevy Camaro vs the 2020 Camaro... Both of those items for enthusiasts and both were selling OK.
JDMvW
As an owner of a bunch of vintage Nikkors in various old mounts, I was always tempted to get a Df, but the aforementioned price was a hindrance for a camera I knew would never be my main shooter. It's really sad news for me; but I think I'll wait out the panic buying right now. Perhaps a year from now, if I am still here, I'll find one used for a better price. I would suspect that the number of us who crave this camera is rather less than Nikon expected. Another example, perhaps, of "they built it but nobody came"

Another example, perhaps, of "they built it but nobody came" If you want a used one you can get it for quite low price. If you want a new one then No as Nikon never drop the price on the Df. They built it and I think there were more people bought it than they actually expected.
JDMvW
used one you can get it for quite low price In my world, the current eBay pre-owned* prices of $1000 to over $2000 US is not "low". I'm happy for you, however :D (most of my extensive collection of old cameras cost less than a fancy pizza) _________ *in listings, "pre-owned" instead of "used" is a sign that you're in the Mercedes class. Dieter Schaefer
On Nikon's website the black version is still available refurbished in black for about $2,300; both versions refurbished with the 50/1.8 Special Edition go for about $2,500. Amazon has a few refurbished Df for just under $2k. Design of DF is looks fine to me Most of it does to me to - I find the backside horrible and especially on the silver version object to the hump with the two buttons at one side of the lens mount. Ergonomics isn't all that great either due to the narrow and shallow grip. Quite like how the top deck looks like - and the prism housing too. That's not a Nikon Df's target audience. I use a Flip Phone. One time, I used it to take a picture. I got a new Flip Phone because I left the old one in my pants and washed it. It stopped working. I leave the new one in the car now, and turn it on to make outgoing phone calls. I bought my Df the first day it was in the camera shop, Small Business Saturday- 7 years ago.

Brian1664876441
The Minox and Tessina- smaller than a flip phone. Df, No Problem. Plus I hate "Cellular Telephony Devices". My family knows how to send a text on my cell phone. Write it on a sticky note, place it in the CTD, and close it.
bgelfand
I find the 10 non-CPU lens bank a bit limiting to be honest, especially on this camera. I don't ever carry that many prime lenses, but it means I sometimes have to sit down and reprogram before a trip out. I suggest you group your non-CPU lenses in sets. Program the group, then Save the settings (see page 280 - 281 in the English version of the manual). Move the NCSETUPD file to your computer in a subdirectory named for the lens set you just programmed (the file must be named NCSETUPD hence the different subdirectories), Now program the next set of lenses and move the NCSETUPD file to a subdirectory named for it. Continue until all sets are programmed. When you take a lens set out, move the appropriate NCSETUPD file to your camera memory card, and load it. As an alternative, you can rename the NCSETUPD files on the computer for the lens set and rename the appropriate file to NCSETUPD when you copy it to the memory card for loading.. Sandy Vongries
It takes around 10 seconds to edit a non CPU lens entry. Can't think of a single time down all the decades where I had more than six lenses on a trip or a shoot. Nine works fine for me and I have eighteen non CPU lenses. Sandy Vongries
Bought mine in June of 2014 with the 50 1.8 - haven't regretted it for a moment. Despite having bought a couple of other newer model used Nikon digitals , it is still my favorite for travel. If I come across a Black one at a good price used, I might just get another one.
