    What's an FA?

It is fascinating that the less expensive cameras have shown to be more popular than the FA.

    What's an FA?

Well in the states, the FM2's are sought after while the FA's not so much. I can get a KEH bgn FA for $126, while the KEH plain ole FM2 bgn is $257. The FM2N's are about $100 more! The FM2 has been around and is still sought after, while the FA is no more.

    What's an FA?

This is good to know. I've read of this problem quite a bunch. Thanks!

    What's an FA?

While searching for a Nikon FM2 to add to my collection, I found the FA. What's an FA and why are they so cheap? After a quick google search I found that these are descent cameras. They were marketed for the pro market when introduced, but now the used market doesn't put much value on them. I still want to add an FM2 to my collection, but the FA is on my mind now. I just wonder why they are so inexpensive?
  5. Don't have a F5 and my F6 is new so not yet. Most, if not all of my other Nikon SLR's got sticky. I found the easiest solution was a combination of rubbing alcohol and Armor All. First get as much off with a alcohol damp cloth. Once you feel you got most of it off, use the Armor All. Again, put it on a cloth and DON"T spray or pour it on your camera. That worked for me.
  6. Digital has so many built in options to determine the colors that most folks don't even mess with them or even know how to adjust them. Film is different as one has to know before the shot, what you are going for on your negative. A very simple example is b&w film. One wouldn't expect color when using a B&W negative. ALso, using Velvia will give you a saturated negative with a cool temperature. Kodachrome, God rest it's soul, would give you saturated warm temperatures. If you are new to film, I suggest reading about it and learning the nuances of using it to get what you want. If you want to get better with your digital camera, learn the adjustments of your camera or shoot in raw and make the adjustments afterwards. Good luck.
  7. The PDF file can be accessed here.
  8. I printed my first transparency today. The exported pdf file was in b&w only and I printed it with the default settings. I looked at the masks and with the magnifier they looked rough. I next printed them in color with the fine setting and bang, they came out great. Much better and no sign of rough edge. Anyone know how I can post the PDF file somewhere here?
  9. I created masks to use over my focus fresnel so I can better compose with my A16 backs. Basically, I print them on transparency, using my inkjet printer. I created a variety of masks, including some for the digital back. Here is an image of the six versions one can print on an 8x10 sheet. Any suggestions to change or add would be greatly appreciated. Also, once I finalize the images, I will share the PDF here if anyone wants to use them.

  12. The way I see it is that my film is frozen in time. When I pull it out of the freezer the clock starts ticking again. If I put it back it, it stops again. Yes, an over-simplification, but it has worked for me. Rarely, do I put it back. When our home flooded and my film freezer died, I pulled my film out and kept it with me in a box. About one month later I bought another freezer and stuck it back in. I've used some of it since and it was fine.
  13. They are certainly affordable! You would be crazy not to buy bunches of them! They are great cameras and the last of their breed.
  14. Well, as the end of the line for one digit film cameras, perhaps the design team thought the changeable viewfinders unnecessary or even unpopular for the narrowing market of film photography. I wonder if Nikon figured that most professional photographers would be using digital for their business and their top of the line film camera would have a different market. The F5 was a poor man's F5 until the F6 showed up. :-)
  15. I look for them all the time for the same reason. If I find a deal I will snatch it up. They are getting harder and harder to find cheap.
  16. Time for a CLA. Not a big deal. Wish that all modern cameras were as simple to fix.
  17. I would like to see that. I would by a metal replacement.
  18. I tried JB Weld when mine went and it didn't work. Glueing plastic, even with JB Weld, is hard. I tried, JB Weld and several types of hot glue and it just did not work. I was sick to my stomach as I really love this camera. I even looked at buying a databack, but they were hard to find and when I found one, the cost was astronomical. In the end, I bought a broken F100 from Japan and stripped it of parts, including the back. I still use my F100, but my F6 has taken most of my use. If I could find a reasonably priced metal upgrade for my F100 back, I would do it.
  19. I just moved to a smaller house that needed a little bit of work. I had a big house before with an unused bathroom as a darkroom that was never permanent, which means I had to clean my stuff out after each use. So for my new house, I had the contractor build a good sized room with no windows and an interior door. I put plumbing and connected to the a/c and heat. I'm 58 and this will be my first real darkroom. Do it!
  20. I was of the same opinion until my baby came apart spontaneously. When it happens, you will say the same thing I would say, wtf! I was careful because I had read the same stories and thought not me I take care of my geat. The bottom line is that plastic has a short stress life. The piece in question is in tension when in use and eventually this piece will fracture. It's science. ;-)
  21. It could also be the shutter. If you don't see an external leak, take it to get serviced.
  22. Looks like an out of country operation with costly shipping. I hope someone figures it out here, NIKON SHOULD, for the piss poor design. I love my F100 and still use it.
