    From the graveyard

Hi Franz, another artistic addition to your series of this tree, very nice! Kind regards, Vincent
  3. Hi Giangiorgio, this is nothing short of marvelous! I've seen quite a few of your photos before, but this one truly stands out in composition, lighting, color and its use of a square frame in which the flamingo and its reflection are in perfect balance. Into my favorites! Kind regards, Vincent
  4. Hi Michael, thank you for your interesting comments and your support! The shadows are of course essential to this photo, although your Hegelian notion made me think about what they are; do they exist, if only for a short time, or are they a construct of our minds? Kind regards, Vincent

    Swan composition

Hi Giangiorgio, thank you for your friendly and appreciative comments and of course your support! I wanted to make sure I didn't overexpose the white plumage. Kind regards, Vincent
  6. Hi Franz, regardless of where they came from, it's all too sad young men die in stupid wars. These wars are waged by men who never get hurt or shot themselves; they have no respect for the young men (and sometimes women) they send into death and destruction in the name of their unbridled search of (more) power. I like the modesty of this tombstone, although the red lettering looks very fresh and is quite noticeable. At least Kunibert Krause gets to be remembered this way. Kind regards, Vincent

    Delicate

Hi Michael, it's nice to see a 'naturalistic' photo of yours! I like the composition, colors and the delicate parts of the flowers that seems to have inspired your title. I think the DoF that you chose works well, although that is above all a personal choice. A minor suggestion would be to crop off just the left edge of the frame. Kind regards, Vincent
  8. Hi G & V, what a nice notion, to make the viewer think about the taste of an ice cream flavor! The idea of connecting sounds, colors and scents may not be new, but this surely is a fresh approach and one that may add to the pleasure of watching your amazingly colorful flower close-ups. To go along with your idea: I think of a yoghurt ice cream with blueberry and lemon flavor. Kind regards, Vincent

    orchid

Hi Franz, a nicely abstracted flower that looks like graphical work. I like the composition and the (lack of) background. The upper part of the picture reminds me of art around 1900. The longer I look at this, the more I like it. Into my favorites! Kind regards, Vincent
  10. Hi Michael, in your newer abstracts you seem to choose warmer and brighter colors than those you made some time ago. This one's title is pretty straightforward: we recognize the four eyes easily, which lead to the conclusion that the darker circle is an open mouth, one could even interpret the lines under the eyes as the lips of this creature. As always, the patterns and 'hidden' lines and shapes add to the appeal of the abstract. Kind regards, Vincent
  11. Hi Evgeny, this location is so beautiful that having people standing on the bridge hardly detracts from the impact of the scenery. The foggy morning mood with the sun starting to clear up the sky on the mountains in the background adds charm. A minor suggestion: edit (especially) the dark element on the bottom left out. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Michael, thank you for your nice comments! I'm glad you think the composition works well. Your comments show how well you studied the image, much appreciated. Kind regards, Vincent

    Barren landscape

Hi Michael, thank you for commenting on this photo! Yes, Giangiorgio was right: after all, a leather fauteuil has a 'skin' surface. Kind regards, Vincent

    DoF study III

Hi Michael, thank you for your friendly comments and for favoriting this photo! I think the shallow DoF is what I was after here and it works well on this image. Kind regards, Vincent

    Swan composition

A mute swan (cygnus olor), a very common species, preening its feathers. I was able to fill the frame with the bird due to its size. As I watched it, I noticed a triangular 'composition'. Making sure I didn't overexpose the white of its plumage also took care of the contrast with the background. Your comments are very welcome.

    Swan composition

A natural triangular composition. Shot handheld with an Olympus Zuiko 70-300 mm 4.0-5.6 lens.

    Confrontation

Hi Michael, The colors in this abstract are really eye-catching! I like the fact that there is a strong similarity between the confronting shapes; the one on the right seems even to be the source of the left one with its harsh red appearance. This could e.g. be an abstract illustration of a quarrel between a parent and a child, but other associations come up. Very nice! Kind regards, Vincent

    jewelweed

Hi G & V, a beautiful combination of colors, good focus and DoF. Jewelweed is a not a native plant in the Netherlands, but it grows here too; I've also seen a more yellow version of these flowers. Kind regards, Vincent

    autumn

Hi Franz, I agree with Frieder. Very original autumn photo! Kind regards, Vincent

    tree

Hi Franz, an intriguing abstract of this tree, with the green at the bottom as a subtle counterbalance. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent
  21. Hi Paul, a surreal scene that works well because of the repetition of the parasols and the strange light. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent

    DoF study III

Hi Arthur, thank you for your friendly comments! A smooth transition from sharp to soft within a small DoF was what I was after. Olympus colors are in a league of their own. Kind regards, Vincent

    DoF study III

Hi Frieder, thanks for your comment! Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Charles, a beautiful capture of this monarch! I especially like the composition and the deep color on its wings. Kind regards, Vincent

    Those eyes!

Hi Scott, the eyes really stand out in the -almost- darkness. It's amazing an ISO 10 000 capture looks so clean; the IBIS works pretty well too. Great work! Kind regards, Vincent
