Sharpness of the bird could have been a bit better, but a great photo anyway.

Any critique welcome, I also invite you to take a look & critique
and/or rate the other photos in this folder. If possible, take a look
at the 'large' versions. Hope you enjoy them, thanks!

You might like to take a look at a photo I took only a few hundreds meter from where you took it:

Sharpness is lacking a bit. Also your point of view is not optimal: the lights from the lampposts are blocking the buildings too much. A higher viewpoint might have helped.

Well, having 2 similar photos invites comparing them and I have to say no. (1) is much better, but I guess I'm only saying what's already very obvious.

I agree with Matthew, great photo - I like the serene atmosphere

Thanks for your remarks & ratings, to take them one by one:
Leif:
the photo could indeed be a bit too dark, I like colors to be saturated (without, I hope, being oversaturated - I did read the discussion following last weeks POW) - and as a consequence my photos may generally be 'on the dark side' :-)
Tim:
you're right! funny how I found out: I copied the sky - mirrored it, and indeed it didn't match the lower half. Anyway, I hope it's not too distracting, I could correct it - but I don't think it would make much difference.
Fabrizio:
I do have ND filters, but actually: I don't remember! but generally I don't use these when the sun shines so I don't think I used one here. I did use a polarizer though.
Michael:
I admit being a 'careless' photographer - I rely very much on the automatic settings of my camera - when in doubt I take a couple of photos with over/under-exposure. I don't keep records of exposure, DOF etc. I do think however this photo has more to do with 'being in the right place at the right time' than with 'technical mastery' (well...except of course for the slight tilt it has :-) )- I was just lucky that day.

Wow! great sky + lovely blue foreground, it's a pity the castle doesn't show any detail, but I guess that's almost inevitable with this light.

You may recognise this photo: I have uploaded this newer version
because the mountain on the left was a too 'solid' black mass in the
previous version, I have retouched it slightly to bring back more
detail.

It's incredible what you can achieve with 'just' a consumer camera + a few closeups, if I understand correctly. One would think that shooting photos like these would involve very advanced professional equipment -way beyond our budget. Great portfolio. Could you perhaps upload a photo of a detail of a ruler with millimeter marks? -I'm interested to learn how close you can get.

This one may be less convincing than the other fireworks photo in
this folder, but I like to think it's not too bad. Any critique

I like it, but a bigger scan would certainly help.
-
....but I would have preferred to see a bigger scan of the photo instead of this HUGE white/grey border surrounding it.

This scan is indeed much better. The difference in rating is remarkable: makes you wonder how much the viewer is influenced by the fact that a photo is chosen as photo of the week!

It seems to me there's too much red in this photo: I adjusted the color balance a bit in a quick retouching and IMO it improves if you remove some of the red. You might compare it with 2 photos I took of the Mezquita: http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=115892 , although I don't claim my photos have the right color.
Also some of the arches seem to be a bit overexposed, but I do remember that it's very difficult to get that right. I like the composition though - the darkness around the central columns/arches part doesn't bother me.
