Any critique welcome, I also invite you to take a look & critique
and/or rate the other photos in this folder. If possible, take a look
at the 'large' versions. Hope you enjoy them, thanks!

In general a very nice folder, but I find the colors just a (tiny) bit too saturated (I already noticed that while watching the thumbnails), and - with the limit on the photosize- I would have choosen for more photo and less border (or none at all).
as for the 'experimental' folder: I like the original versions much better.

Nice photo, radiates a lot of happiness.

A big part of the sky is blown out, this doesn't really give it a sunset atmosphere. This is very difficult to expose correctly: the alternative is to get the sky right but that will make the castle too dark. A gaduated filter might have helped, or a shorter exposure and some photoshop postprocessing.

I don't know at what time this photo was taken: if it was taken in the evening, that could account for the lack of red. But it is very tempting to apply some color correction.

Given the direction from which the light is coming, the shadows on the text give the impression that the text is higher than the wall & bass. I think it would have worked better -and more convincing- to have given them a 'carved out' impression. Also 'ROMA' lacks just a bit of 'authenticity' and doesn't really stand out from the surrounding wall.

Nice atmosphere, but scanquality is not optimal (or it could be too much jpeg compression). I've got the impression though that this photo -as well as most of your splendid portfolio- is just a little bit oversaturated.

Great!! Only: you should either get rid of the text or make it a dark grey. It very much disturbs the serenity.

Great! I don't understand some of the comments about the clouds: they definitely enhance this photo.

The fact that you took this at night makes it certainly special, but, as has been said before: if you hadn't told I wouldn't have noticed - except perhaps for the texture of the water. It's a very nice photo, don't misunderstand me about that, but I can't help feeling that the high ratings are more the result of the special way you made it than the intrinsic qualities of the photo. It would have been a real winner if it also had star trails as in one of your other night shots.

It has a magenta cast. Removing that makes it more natural.

I miss a photo of the cloister of San Juan de Duero in Soria: surely you're not going to tell me that you didn't visit that? That's one of Spain's greatest treasures IMHO.

Well done! I wouldn't have noticed it was colored if you hadn't told. Don't like the peace sign though, if you could just 'clone' that away....

Great photo. Like the way the colors change from red to blueish and then fade to white.
I envy you for having been there at the right time.
A few things though: if you're not opposed to Photoshoppping, I would sharpen it just a bit and remove the branch in the upper left. Also you might consider adding a border to separate the sky from the rest of the screen. Also I could just see the 'medium' size photo, thanks to my 21" monitor, but most people would have to scroll and can't see it as a whole. I took the liberty to adapt it to show what I mean, hope you don't mind.

Well Charles, I didn't know either, but it's a 'tailpole' or ' tiller beam', I found this on www.windmillworld.com:
"As already mentioned, the whole body rotated on the central post, in order to face the wind. To allow this to happen, a tailpole or tiller beam extended from the rear of the body. By pushing on this beam (or by using some form or winch or animal power) the miller rotated his mill"

Nice! adjusting the color balance a little bit (removing some blue) to make it a bit 'warmer' improves it IMHO.
