The picture is just waaay to cluttered.  All the junk in the background simply distracts (putting it politely),  should have used a wide open aperture and blurred that backreound out.

Subject(s) to centered. Cropped such that the Sun and ship are on far right would GREATLY improve this.  Also choppy water is never attractive.  Perhaps a bit longer exposure would smooth it a bit

  1. Maybe its just me.  But lately there seems to be a trend of shooting nudes in odd position with bluish cast.  That to me produces a good Medical examiners forensic shot of a crime scene.

The sky and distant mountains add nothing to this scene.  By lowering your view to crop out those you would add more of the foreground rock to give depth.  You could also crop the left side a bit, as it almost appears blurred.

Since you shot this with bad light (mid-day) you really need to tweak that contrast.

  2. Wel in a nutshell you have blown out a lot of highlights.  And on the shadow half, the right side the shadows and colors of the shadows are conflicting.  Since it is not full high key the lack of contrast works against the whole image.  On a more minor not the models skin needs some touching up: particularly the moles on her chest, as well as her chin area.  Nice start, but only a start imo

You have almost converted me into an IR admirer.  You have recently submitted two or three of the most outstanding examples of IR that I can recall seeing.  This one is perfection personified...to paraphrase Shakespeare, 'Hie thee to a gallery' and grab an agent on the way!

The example with the reduced noise by MLM(?) shows what I was referring to.  Set the to pics side by side and you will see that the noise reduced ones stars are much larger in diameter (hence less sharp),  So it is your call.

  3. Use your EYES!  Histograms don't 'see' they just give averages.  Show this and your other 'Paths' photos to some of the old time REAL pros and get their opinion of the exposure in these, and what they say about histograms.

My suggestion would be to buy Syl Arena's Light for Digital book and really really study it.

Just my opinion but it appears that you are teetering on the edge with noise reduction even  tiny bit more and you will start destroying stars.

I do like this one of the Chinese Garden.  It does not contain the 'Pizza Hut' element of a previous version.  ;)  Actually hints at the Forbidden City, and you start looking for those ceramic soldiers!

Jokes aside, this is a very well executed shot.

  4. Well the most obvious problem is over exposure., low contrast. And I in no way implying an HDR makeover, just working a dropping the exposure, raising the contrast a touch (which will increase saturation.  The only thing it really maybe sort of lacks is a clear object for size reference.

    Nice pleasing shot.

IMO that shot really doesn't need a crop.  Maybe some noise reduction, but I am not really firm on that either.  I like this: You have distinct fore-mid & back grounds.

  5. I honestly wish that someone qualified to critique a photo of this quality would do so.  I would read it over and over, because it would contain knowledge way beyond mine.

I would frame, and hang this in my home, in the most prominent space.
