    Twenty Violets

Salvador. Beautiful work. One of the most natural "fashion" shots that I have seen her. The composition and light are well controlled but casual and unassuming. Great work. Dana...

    Magical Forest

Amy. I agree with Lannie. I think the "subjects" in this shot are the branches, particularly the one one on the far right. Perhaps a bit more contrast would do the trick. Dana...
  13. Laura. Nice tension between temptation and aversion. I want to follow the beautiful woman but the environment is foreboding and dark. This tension is really highlighted by the dark windows and doors that are mirrors of the woman's dress. I really like the feeling and think the composition is really well lit. All the best. Dana...
  14. Maurizio. Lovely composition. I really like the lighting on the model. All the best. Dana...

    Nymue Unveiled

Everyone. Thanks for the comments and observations. Laura. Thanks so much for the thoughtful observations. Just for context; I am shooting from above (out of the water) and the model is submerged. I agree that the feeling is exposed but confident or comfortable. I think this describes the model very well. I like the notion of her being in "mother liquid" and think it is a cool interpretation. Glad you like the BW. I hope to see some of your underwater shots. I bet they will be fantastic, once you figure it out. I am also experimenting. You might be interested that this is the same model on the same day as my work entitled "Kaua speaks his mind". She is a beautiful and fearless model. I really owe the success to her willingness and ability to be underwater (or in other weird situations) and look confident and serene. Jon. Thanks. I am glad that you like it and as I mentioned to Laura, I am just beginning the experiments/exploration with water. Glad to hear from you and I remain a huge fan. Maurizio. Great to hear from you my friend. I am thrilled you think my style is unquestionable. It is a great compliment. Thanks again to everyone and all the best. Dana...
  16. Everyone. Thanks for the comments and observations. joao. Strange indeed. I am glad that you think it works. The story behind the work isn't all that strange but I think the story is simultaneously funny and a bit serious (not to mention absurd). Amy. I am honored to make your favorites. I am a huge fan and friend. I was also happy with the movement of the model. I think you can interpret it as merging or emerging. My thought was that the model was emerging from the mind of Kaua and the speech was the rock (however you want to interpret that). My thoughts on the speech and attitude of Kaua were a bit of a "cranky old man" or "unimpressed god". But maybe that is because I am a cranky old man. I really owe the shot to the model who was interpreting the graffiti as we shot. She is beautiful but more importantly she is fearless. I have some other strong shots that I may post but this was my favorite from the series. Rudolf. Thanks for the compliment. I really enjoy your work as well. Thanks again to everyone and all the best. Dana...
  17. Amy. I am currently using my IPad and it is hard to see the subtleties between I and II. However, I think number 1 looks better. Definitely not III. The third version loses all the mystery without really gaining anything to increase the emotional impact of the work. I think folks fret too much about detail and sharpness sometimes. My view is that this shot gets its meaning from the darkness (metaphorically and in reality). The beauty of the original is its intimacy, a nude woman, partially seen, in the dark. How most nudes are actually seen, right? I feel pretty strongly that your initial instincts were spot on and it is without a doubt the best interpretation. Sorry for rambling and all the best. Dana...
  18. Raymond. From toenail to heel (couldn't resist the pun) a great shot. Love the symmetry. Dana...
  19. Teddy. If this doesn't make everyone want to smell the roses, then nothing will. Great shot. Dana...

    So High So Low

Laura. Evocative as usual. It is obviously a sad place with a sad figure. But the photograph is lovely and I really think that the black and white works well. All the best. Dana...

    Untitled

John. As you know, I am a great admirer of this series and this is a wonderful addition. The contrast in the shot is especially good while keeping great tonal range. However, what makes it for me is the feeling (loneliness, isolation, ambivalence). Cool. Dana...
  22. John. Lovely portrait. I might try and tone down her left arm a bit. All the best. Dana...
